Lunchtime Meeting

Unexpected guest

As it got closer to lunch the lesson seemed to slow to a crawl. You knew watching the clock would only make it worse but having already finished your work, you had nothing else to work on. The bell finally put you out of your misery and from the looks on peoples faces, you weren't the only one who was wishing for the lesson to end.

Although you were glad the class was over, you weren't in a huge rush to head up to Rebecca’s office. She would probably have questions from a couple of people about the class material so depending on how persistent they were, you had more than enough time to spare. You packed up your bag, making sure you had packed the stopwatch you found last night and headed out the class only to be met by an unexpected face.

“Hey Max” Sarah called out as you left the room. She was leaning on the corridor wall next to the door but quickly pushed herself to her feet to join you.

“Hey. Sarah” you replied, feeling a bit confused as to why she was here. You were surprised that she actually knew which class you were in. You hadn't told her recently so she must have either remembered it herself or asked someone instead. Your first thought was Mom but you weren't even sure that she knew your exact timetable.

“You alright with me joining you for lunch?” she asked, not noticing the look on your face. You didn't want to outright reject her considering this was the first time she had spoken to you at school the whole semester and clearly this wasn’t usual Sarah behavior but with your plans with Rebecca already set in stone, you didn't want to leave her hanging either.

“Come on follow me” you answered. A mix of concern and brotherly instincts seemed to win the battle as you held her forearm and lightly pulled her back into the classroom you had just left which was now almost deserted. The teacher had already left so you waited until everyone else had packed up. A few students gave you a weird look as you watched them leave but that didn't really bother you at the moment. With you and Sarah being the only people now in the room, You checked to see if she was okay.

“Why wouldn't I be okay?” she asked, looking puzzled.

“Well, when my sister suddenly comes up to me out of nowhere and wants to speak with me, of course I'm gonna think something is wrong. Especially since you never talk to me when we're at school” you explained.

“...Fair point, but it's nothing serious, I just had a few things I wanted to discuss.” she said, looking a bit more timid than usual. Although she said it wasn't serious that didn't mean it was something you could ignore. If it was just a simple question then she would have just asked you when you got back home.

“Look Sis, I’ve got a meeting in one of the staff offices to discuss some college stuff but if you're fine with waiting, I’ll try to hurry it up. I can take you to where Emma is in the meantime?” you suggested. It would give you less time with Rebecca but given Sarah’s attitude, this seemed more important.

“Ah no, I'd prefer just waiting in the corridor if that's okay?” she said, shaking her head at the idea of joining Emma.

“Don’t worry about it, it's fine. I’ll be in there 10-15 minutes max so it's better we hurry now so we have more time. Agreed?”

She gave a small nod before you guided her up the stairs. She held back as you got closer to the door and sat down against the wall on the opposite side of the corridor. With Sarah taken care of, you knocked on the door and were invited in by Rebecca who was standing behind her desk.

“Sorry I’ve just got here myself so please excuse the mess” she confessed, trying to clean up the scattered files and documents on her desk

“Nah it makes no difference to me. I'm not exactly the tidiest person myself, you should see what my room looks like sometimes” you admitted.

“You really shouldn't be inviting your teacher back to your room now, should you?” she teased.

You blushed realising your mistake but managed to take the comment in stride.

“And you shouldn't be making flirty comments to your student but… here we are'' you grinned. Her eyes widened a bit at your comeback but she quickly made herself busy, straightening and organising the remaining desk clutter. With everything relatively clean you both sat down on opposite sides of the desk, giving you a chance to remove your phone from your pocket to secretly load up the KDK out of Rebecca’s line of sight. You explained what you had planned while checking to make sure her active effect could be used.

“So I wanted to try something different this time if that’s okay with you? So far, we've only been using your wrist but I was wondering if we could try a different area to see if it's easier to get measurements or just to compare them against the previous sets. For starters, I was thinking about getting your pulse from the Carotid artery in your neck?” you asked, trying your best to stay professional and keep any excitement out of your voice. Rebecca didn't say anything immediately but you presumed that she was thinking over your proposal.

“I get that it makes sense to try new areas but I’m not too sure about this Max. I’m fine with us carrying on with the wrist but this seems a bit too personal.” Rebecca replied.

Although she had shot you down, she did have to consider it beforehand. Maybe with a little more pushing you would be able to convince her but if she still refused then it might end up affecting things between you in the long term.

Do you try and convince her?
