Unexpected Help

Suddenly, the entire car jerked away from her violently. Dani let out a short, startled scream. Her car bounced briefly on the wet pavement before settling; all four tires on the road. She held her hand to her chest, feeling her racing heart. Through the glare, she couldn't see anything. With her pulse pounding and the rain soaking through her clothes, she shakily made her way to the driver's side of the car and peered into the darkness. All she saw was a shaking pine branch and darkness...

She didn't waste any time. Dani quickly flung the door open, and slammed into the driver's seat. She revved the engine, flung it into reverse, and then into 1st, 2nd and 3rd gear, bringing her import car from 0-60 in under 7 seconds. Her chest heaved as she looked back in the mirror. Just as she was about to take a curve, she saw a figure leave the woods, and stare down the road at her.

Dani took the curves at breakneck speed for a full 15 minutes until she was clear of the woods. Her headlights illuminated the darting raindrops. She glanced ahead, and saw the mansion on the top of the hill. It had to be her Aunt's. She noted the general store, the diner, and what appeared to be a very confused sherriff standing in the rain ticketing a Dodge Ram as she flew through Millhaven at 80mph up the hill.

It was then that she realized she was by the ocean. The crashing waves broke against the low and high cliffs that the town sat inland from. For some reason, this calmed her. She took her foot off the accelerator, and giggled to herself. The looming, three story structure ahead of her could only be warm, and inviting, and dry; unlike the woods she was leaving behind.

Or so she thought.
