Understanding

After watching some true crime shows on Netflix, Amy went off to bed.

"She's a great kid." Evelyn said.

"Thanks."

"Sassy though."

"Yeah, she gets that from her mother."

Evelyn wrapped her arm around Spencer's shoulder before kissing her on the cheek. "She's lucky to have you."

"Yeah."

"And your Dad jokes."

Spencer flashed a smile, in spite of his thoughts of Kirstin.

"So what about tomorrow?"

"I dunno. You have anything in mind?"

"Same old suits me."

"You're easy to..."

"That's why you like me." Evelyn interjects.

Spencer shakes his head with a smile. "You have such a dirty mind."

"And that's why you like me."

As he laughed, Evelyn kissed his cheek, hoping it'd push him to make a move. Instead an awkward silence follows, where Evelyn came to realize that Spencer mind was more focused on his passed lover than his current one. She'd seen that blank look on her father's face plenty of times before when he reflected on her late mother.

"You okay Spence?"

"Yeah... it's just..." Spencer shook his head. "Sometime Amy just reminds me so much of her."

Evelyn nodded as she patted his shoulder. "You wanna call it a night?"

"Yeah I think I might."

"You need to be alone?"

"I think I'd appreciate that. Sorry."

"Hey, no need to apologize for having a heart big enough for the free of us."

Spencer smiled as she gave him another kiss on the forehead.

"I'm happy sleep on the couch."

"Actually we've got some guest bedrooms."

"Oh... of course."

"Upstairs or downstairs?"

"Eh, whichever's closest."

"Come with me."

Evelyn followed Spencer to the guest bedroom, where she said "Night Spence."

"Goodnight."
