Chapter 22 by TheFallacyGuy TheFallacyGuy

Which newspaper do you choose?

Undercreek Tribune - Thursday, 26th of May, 1884 - Mayoral Race Peaks Little Interest Despite Coming to an End

On the front of the newspaper you see a bison of a man... Mostly due to him being half bison. He is built like a taurus, except his horns are small and he is a lot more muscular. His legs end with hooves not feet. In the photo he is standing behind a podium on a stage holding a speech. There are a couple of people around, but not a whole lot. The article reads:

Mayoral Race Peaks Little Interest Despite Being in Full Swing

The Undercreek mayoral elections are fast approaching. In just two months will the citizens of Undercreek plus a subset of the smaller towns in the region once again vote for the position of mayor. Despite the fact that the elections are right around the corner, and the two major candidates are in a tight race, very little excitement have been drummed up. Attendance to rallies and debates has significantly decreased the past five elections, with the voter turnout estimated to only be about 46% this year.

When asked for why they are not turning up to the debates, the answers usually orbit around the two major candidates and how safe and unexciting mayor candidate Thaddeus Bromwell is, and how chaotic and ambiguous candidate Frederick Valentine's messaging is.

Current mayor Laurence Hatchet have chosen not to run for reelection.

Hatchet describes the situation thusly: "It is a sad affair that politics, community and society are no longer interests of the younger generations. Hopefully by reaching out to them and creating an environment that teaches them the importance of diligence and discipline, we can convince them of the values of engagement."

While voter turnout has decreased between all age groups, young voters have decreased the most.

"It's just that nobody talks to us. Nobody tries to make things better for us." says Jacob Woodman, a 21-year-old working in his family's bakery.

"I just feel left out." concurs Irene Fletcher, a 23-year-old maid: "All the talk about money reform and trade deals, but I still can't afford gas for my stove."

While Bromwell is ultimately estimated to become the winner of the election, there is a particular uncertainty in these results in the sheer dedication Valentine's supporters bring, which might bring in some last decision voters.

Considering that Valentine has dedicated supporters you assume that the man in the photo is Bromwell. A general but unexciting candidate or a controversial candidate with a dedicated following. Who would win? You've never had much interest in politics, but you can't deny that the outcome of this election could have a big influence on your new life, since The Last Post is probably considered to be one of the surrounding towns that make up the Undercreek region. You put down the newspaper.
