Chapter 22 by TheFallacyGuy TheFallacyGuy

Which newspaper do you choose?

Undercreek Tribune - Friday, 27th of May, 1884 - Orphan Queen Dethroned?

On the front of the most recent newspaper is a picture of a woman. The picture only shows her upper body. You are not entirely sure what to make of the woman. She seems self-assured, perhaps a bit snooty, and a bit arrogant, but there is something to her face. Some invisible pain. She is dressed like an aristocrat, but her face says something darker, something sadder. She is quite beautiful though. Tanned skin, long straight purple hair. She is very lithe, but despite that she has a very generous bosom. Her eyes are both sharp and sleepy, like a wolf in sheep's clothing. This must be the titular queen. The article reads:

Orphan Queen Dethroned?

Some people have been looking into the railway industry lately, and found that the company Trackway had a bigger margin of profit last quarter than their long-established and well-praised competitor Orphan.

While this is the first time that the train mogul Monique Domínguez has been financially overtaken by another railway company since 1876, Trackway will have a long way to go to become as well-known and beloved as Orphan.

Commenting on the matter Domínguez argues: "There are much more to a company than just profit. Yes, profit is important to keep things going, to be on track, if you'll pardon the expression, but reputation, earnestness, and a sense of community and values will earn you much more respect and therefore longevity than shortsighted profit."

Domínguez is, of course, considered to be a paragon of such virtues. She is clearly established as a beloved figure in the communities surrounding Undercreek, and therefore it is hard to come to the conclusion that Orphan is not going to continue to rule onwards.

The chairman of Trackway, Steve Winifred Goulding comments: "It is an exciting milestone that I believe is just the start of something even greater. Profit is important after all. It allows us to put money into many new innovations within the technology of trains."

It has yet to be proven whether or not Goulding's beliefs hold any water or not, and they certainly will have their work cut out for them, but until such answers can be definitively proven, one cannot say that the queen has been dethroned.

Well, this article seems... defensive. You look through the other stories of the newspaper, and none of the stories have this kind of tone. It seems more like an editorial than an actual news article. Oh well, newspapers are bound to mess up every once in a while. You put the newspaper down.
