This can't go well, right?
Uncomfortable Conversation
Doug groaned and started to get up. “Alright, I’m out.”
“Sit down Doug.” Jenn’s voice was serious, whatever she had planned, they weren’t getting out of it.
“There’s a cloud hanging over the both of you, and it sucks. If you are going to be moody losers, I’m not hanging out with either of you, now talk, Doug first.”
“Why do I have to go first?”
“Because you tried to run away.”
“Shit.”
“It’s cool Doug, say whatever you want to say man.” Scott had tried to get Doug’s opinion on he and Suzie before, but Doug hadn’t said much.
“We all know Suzie has been into Scott forever, he came home and she went crazy for him, and now they are fucking.”
“What? Doug, I haven’t done anything with Suzie.”
“Nothing?”
“No, she’s been flirting with me, but we haven’t done anything, we haven’t kissed or even fucking held hands. I’m not banging your sister.”
Scott’s voice had gotten louder, and everyone stopped and stared at his last statement.
“Seriously?” Doug asked him. “Not even last night after she was laying all over you?”
“I woke her up and told her to go to bed.”
“So, there’s nothing between the two of you.”
“I can’t say that.”
“What do you mean, is there something or isn’t there?”
Scott scowled; he couldn’t really answer that.
“I don’t know man, she’s your little sister, but she’s no longer a kid, she’s fun and she’s into me, but I’m not sure I want a serious relationship right now. I mean I’ve been back for one day and everyone acts like I’ve been planning this for years, I don’t know what I want. But if I was with Suzie, I’d tell you Doug, I wouldn’t lie to you, you know that.”
“I believe you Scott.” Jenn said. “But Suzie was trying hard to convince everyone you were hers at the bike shop.”
Doug shook his head. “Suzie always tries to one-up you Jenn, she’s always been jealous of you.”
“What, by trying to convince Jenn we’re a thing? Like she’d care.” Scott laughed, but Jenn and Doug didn’t join him.
“I’m going to get some air,” Jenn said and walked away.
“I’m going to get some wings, either of you want anything?” Doug asked.
“I’ll take some wings if they are the hot ones,” Jen replied.
“Yeah, I’m in too.” Scott said, a little confused at how that had gone, but glad it was apparently over.
Doug walked up to the bar, and Jenn walked outside.
Scott sat and nursed a bit more of his beer, he didn’t get why people were all over him about Suzie, she was into him and flirting with him. He hadn’t done anything, but it felt like everyone was judging him like he was taking advantage of her.
“This seat taken?”
Scott looked up to see a pretty blonde smiling at him, “Not at the moment.”
“Hi I’m Mary, I saw you from across the bar and thought I’d come say hi.”
Mary. . . this lady seemed familiar to him, but he couldn’t place it.
“I’m Scott, nice to meet you.”
“You want to dance?”
Scott could use a chance to get away from the cloud of judgement hanging over the table, “Sure.”
The dance floor didn’t have many people on it and only moments after they got out on it the music slowed down. Pretty soon he was slow dancing with a perfect stranger. She was beautiful. Medium length wavy blonde hair, bright blue eyes, a great smile. She was wearing a well-fitted green dress that showed off her breasts and thin waist..
“You’re a good dancer Scott.”
Thank Amanda, Scott thought, she had them go to dance lessons early on in their relationship, Scott had really enjoyed it, but then, Amanda was hot and, in those days, he would have done anything to get his hands on her.
“You’re pretty good yourself.”
“You live near here? I haven’t seen you around before.”
“I grew up here, just got back from the Army.”
“Whoa, a soldier, my mother warned me about you guys.”
“You should listen to her.”
“Maybe I will, tomorrow.” She moved the hand on his back down, resting on the top of his butt and pulled closer to him.
Scott stepped up his dancing, leading her into some more complicated moves, but she kept up with him.
“You actually know what you are doing, Scott. Did they train you to dance in the Army?” She asked, smiling.
“Ex-wife actually.”
“Damn, it was a joke Scott, not an offer to trauma-dump.”
Scott laughed.
“Well at least you got something out of it.”
Between songs Scott looked back and saw Jenn and Doug had returned.
“Hey my food arrived.”
“Alright, thanks for the dance.”
Scott was thirsty, and was glad to see a new round of beers and the wings. Suddenly Mary yelled out from behind him.
“Oh my God! Jenn?”
“Marianne?”
A familiar face joins the crew. . .
