Uhh... Step 2: Run Away!

The sun is just beginning to rise as you and your forces race through the trees, closely pursued by the black spiders. Despite the new day, the woods are still dim with early morning mist, and as you charge through the forest, the grey shadows seem filled with enemies ready to pounce.

You can hear a chorus of angry hiss and shouts close behind you. You push yourself, trying to gain even more speed. All of you run as fast as you can, but finally drawn from their hollow, Drux and his followers are relentless in their hunt.

As the chase progresses, your previous hasty retreat becomes a total rout. The coherency of your unit vanishes, causing your small attack **** to devolve into a mass of frightened, running prey that is easily scattered.

For a while, you all stay together, due more to luck than actual choice. Little by little though, your numbers thin, as spiders either fall behind, take a wrong turn, or simply decide to make a break for it on their own. With every member gone, you're party moves a little faster, propelled forward by the thought at being left behind, and caught out alone.

Eventually though, you are alone, separated from the rest of your party during your headlong flight. You are left completely isolated, cut-off from all assistance. It is just you against Drux and his horde now.

For one brief, wild moment, you dare to hope that Drux might give up the chase, or turn his attention towards something else. However, you have no such luck. Although, you dare not look behind you, you can still hear the sounds of heavy pursuit. Drux is ignoring the others. His focus is you.

The fear and terror coursing through your veins turns a scant, few minutes of headlong flight into an endless stretch of time that lasts an eternity. The noise following you seems to come from every direction, creating walls of sound that hem you in. Filled with the constant fear that your pursuers have somehow gotten ahead, you push yourself as your have never before in you life.

Finally, you glimpse a gap in the underbrush. You dive through it, and crouch for a second, trying to catch your breath. Then, you slowly start to creep forward carefully, staying behind cover. You can hear the sounds of pursuit grow louder and louder. The noise becomes deafening. Caught in mid-step, you freeze, not moving at all. They are upon you.
