Try to get dressed

Zoe, or the consciousness inhabiting the body, couldn't shake the surreal feeling that had taken hold of her this morning. She contemplated her options, recognizing that what used to be considered options didn't have the same personal significance to her anymore. After all, they couldn't truly be "hers."

As this entity continued to gaze at the reflection in the mirror, she continued to examine the familiar person staring back at her. The face and body in the mirror were no longer her own; they were just the form she was currently borrowing and using.

If she wanted to figure out what was happening to her, she would not find it in the mirror or in the house. Waving goodbye to the body's reflection, Zoe exited the bathroom and walked over to the closet to decide what to wear. It was a shame that these clothes didn't belong to her because it almost felt rude to wear them. You don't just take things that don't belong to you without permission.

It felt strange to be dressing in garments that didn't rightfully belong to her, but the reality was that she was already wrapped in a towel that also didn't belong to her on a body that was no longer hers. But she can't get past the feeling she was being intrusive and "stealing" these clothes. The clothes on the rack didn't belong to her. The towel on her didn't belong to her. This body didn't belong to her.

Zoe looked to the clothes with a sense of detachment from personal ownership. She couldn't truly "like" or "dislike" the clothes, as those emotions were tied to a sense of personal preference and identity, something she can no longer claim. Instead, she had to make a decision based on practicality.

Closing the body's eyes, Zoe willed the body's hand to reach forward and pick something. If she "dislikes" the clothes the hands chose, she'd stay inside the place she once called home. If the hand grabs clothes she "likes", maybe she can continue to figure out what is happening to her. Zoe opened the body's eyes and saw the hands holding onto a form-fitting black dress.
