Chapter 5 by soulfeaster
What does he do with the girl?
Try to calm her
Barry tried giving her a friendly smile as he carefully extended his right hand to help her get up. Noticing her duck away even more he realized that she was rightfully afraid of him, he had just killed two men in less than two heartbeats. He also stopped his friendly smile as he realized that it probably looked like a wolf baring his fangs. He slowly lowered his hand and took two steps back.
I sure hope that I can still talk…
His voice was a low growl, sounding more like an animal trying itself at human speech than a human talking.
“Listen miss, I did not come to hurt you or anything, actually I did this to save you.”
She slowly lowered her hands and scrambled to her feet. He could see the fear in her body posture and with his snout even smell her fear over the smell of blood in the stinking alley.
Standing in front of him was a girl of maybe nineteen or twenty years. As he had noticed before the shape of her eyes showed hints of Asian ancestry, though their green colour pointed to a European parent. Her round features with high cheek bones and a small nose were even and beautiful, she wore her by now blood drenched hair at about shoulder length. Her body was lean and athletic, her small pert breasts were nicely shown through her ruined shirt and her nipples had become erect. Barry sincerely hoped that this was due to the temperature and not the bloodshed he had just caused. He only noticed that he was staring at her as she was trying to cover herself to evade his gaze. He noticed his face flushing and he quickly looked away.
“Uhh… Sorry, didn’t mean to stare…”
Her bewildered laughter caught him completely of guard. Looking at her once more he could see that she seemed genuinely surprised.
“N... no problem… I should thank you for stopping them.”
Once again he could feel himself smiling,
“My pleasure, miss…”
“Nina, my name is Nina. You… you are not surprised that I don’t freak out when I see you?”
“I take it that you either know what I am or you think this is a dream now don’t you?
This time her laughter was genuine.
“Well you are right I am related to some of your kind. Actually I came to this city looking for my sister. You haven’t seen her by any chance now have you?”
“Well… I seem to have lost my memories, do you mind telling me what my kind exactly is?”
For a few heartbeats she just stared at him blankly. Then she nodded.
“Sure thing, but could we move from here please? I am not used to bloodshed like you guys.”
“Ok where do we go?”
“My sisters’ apartment it is a five minute walk from here.”
Judging from her heartbeat, she was not lying so Barry simply nodded his massive head.
“Good I will follow you.”
Quickly she knelt down next to the big man as she took his coat and moved towards Barry, just as she was about to get to him she slipped on the blood once more. Quickly he moved towards her and caught her before she hit the ground, at first her body stiffened in his arms but then she relaxed, leaning against his fur she sighed contently and he felt that her heart beat increased just a bit. Slowly she stood up again and flashed him a quick and nervous smile.
“Thank you, what is your name anyway?”
“Barry..."
“Barry? I thought you guys would always take on some strange names like walks in the wind or Punishes the guilty or things like that.”
Just as these words left her lips he felt a tinge in his brain and even though he tried to fight it, another flashback hit him with the **** of a freight train.
He was standing among many other beings in war form, the form he was in right now. They were in a forest clearing, surrounding him and another werewolf with black fur. He noticed that all their fur colours were red and black. The being in front of him started speaking in a strange and alien language that he somehow knew instantly.
“And for the deeds you have done and the glory you have brought to your pack and your tribe, you will walk among us bearing the name Ballad until it does not fit you any more.”
He heard the chants of his new name coming from a group of three red and one black furred werewolves. One of them was even larger than the rest and incredibly muscular, the other three seemed to be female.
Then he was brutally brought back into reality as his head hit the hard stone floor. A high female voice reached his mind, calling his name as stars danced in front of his eyes. As they disappeared he could see Nina kneeling over him with a concerned look on her face.
“Barry! Barry, are you all right? Are you injured?”
“Uhh… Ballad… My deed name is Ballad.”
“Oh, ok. But why did you fall over? I thought you guys were virtually indestructible!”
“I… I had a flashback, I lost my memory, don’t really remember much before tonight.”
“That is terrible, come on lets get to the apartment. Maybe I can help you.”
Slowly he got up and started walking towards the end of the alley as he felt Nina’s hand grabbing hold of his left arm.
“You should go back to your human form. I don’t think I can sneak you into the apartment if you look like this.”
Tilting her head slightly she smiled a little and added.
“And you would not fit in like this.”
“All right, I will try, but I don’t quite remember how to do this.”
Does he remeber how to shift forms?
