Chapter 20
by philipcollin
What do you decide to use?
Try some magic instead
Focusing your mind you begin to compress a ball of air above the demon and summoner. You feel a strong wind pulling you in toward the centre of the spell as air is sucked in to create the high density orb. You continue to **** the air to compress, pouring magic into the spell to overcome the air’s increasing attempt to fly apart.
The air ball shimmers, the density of the gas bending any light passing through it. The intense pressure of the ball creates enormous temperatures, and the orb begins to glow from the heat.
The demon begins to run toward you, mouth open in a bestial grimace of rage, a long shadow extending before it as it is silhouetted by the glowing ball. You release the magic holding the ball of air compressed, letting it erupt apart. A powerful shockwave blasts out, glowing brightly from the pressure of the air inside it.
The summoner is instantly slammed into the ground, his protective barrier glowing brightly, runes glowing manically in an attempt to diffuse the ****.
The shockwave slams into the back of the demon, lifting it from the ground and throwing it though the air. Shards of rock fly up at the base of the wave, the **** of the detonation cracking the ground.
You quickly erect a barrier to protect yourself from the shockwave, and almost instantly the wave rams into your shield. The barrier barely holds as shards of rock join the superheated wave of **** slamming into your shield.
As suddenly as it hit, the shockwave passes, and you drop your shield. You look around to check the extent of the damage your spell caused. A large crater is blasted out of the ground right in the epicentre of the blast. Long cracks snake out around it, and pieces of shattered rock litter the floor. You turn to see that the demon has been flung way behind you, and it struggles to rise, you need to finish this quickly before it can rejoin the fight.
Turning back around you see that the summoner himself lies motionless on the floor, his protective ward flickering weakly. He isn’t yet dead however, as the demon has not disappeared yet.
You slowly walk over to him, focusing the remainder of your magic into creating a thin spear of super compressed air hovering above his chest.
You stop walking directly next to him, and look down into his rage filled face. The blonde haired man looks back up at you, and opens his mouth to scream his fury at you. He struggles futilely to rise, snarling and shouting at you.
You lift your hand to point at the completed spear hovering in the air. Looking back down at his face you smile in cold victory and drop your hand.
The spear slams down into the man, ripping through the weakened barrier. A sudden look of pain crosses the man’s face as he is impaled by the blazing hot shaft.
You open your hand and release the magic. The spear blasts apart, the pressure of the air forcing it to fly apart with devastating ****. The man’s entire impaled chest erupts as the air blasts through him, leaving only a destroyed crater where his chest was. His face goes instantly slack and lifeless, and he falls back to lie limp on the ground. A dull thump from behind you tells you the demon has also disappeared.
Quiet once again returns to the cold air, the only sound being the mournful wail of the wind. You straighten up, and look down on the bloody tatters of a human body lying in front of you. You cannot help feeling sorry for the guy; his anger consumed him, destroying his humanity.
You bow your head for a couple of seconds in honour to his spirit. Opening your eyes again you take a long look around the area, checking for any other dangers.
