Chapter 6
by Askaband
After dinner
Try say good night to Luna
After dinner, there’s a bit of time for Ryan to settle into his new home, retreating to his bedroom to avoid his father being overly handsy with Vanessa in the living room.
Brushing his teeth that night, he couldn’t help but feel awkward by the way things had started between him and his new step-sister. The attractive young blonde was only a year or two older than him and he wouldn’t mind getting along with her well, in more ways than one.
The least he could do is say good night to the girl.
Ryan hesitates outside Luna's door, his hand hovering over the knob. He can hear the faint sound of music coming from inside, the muffled beat of a song he doesn't recognize.
Taking a deep breath, he knocks softly. “Hey, Luna? It's Ryan. Can I come in?”
There's a moment of silence, then the music cuts off abruptly. A few seconds later, the door cracks open, revealing Luna's icy blue eyes. “What do you want?” she asks, her voice flat and uninterested.
Ryan shifts his weight, suddenly feeling awkward. “I just wanted to say goodnight. And, y'know, see how you're doing.” He offers a tentative smile, trying to break the ice.
Luna rolls her eyes, leaning against the doorframe. “I'm fine. Now go away.” She starts to close the door, but Ryan's foot stops it.
“Wait,” he says, his voice firmer than before. “Look, I know this isn't easy for either of us. But we're stuck with each other now, so we might as well try to get along.”
Luna scoffs, crossing her arms over her chest. “Get along? With you? Fat chance.” But there's a flicker of something in her eyes, a hint of curiosity beneath the hostility.
Ryan presses on, “Come on, Luna. Give me a chance. I'm not trying to replace anything you and your mom had going here… we could just be like friends.”
Luna's expression softens, just a fraction. “Friend? You don't even know me.” But she doesn't close the door, she rolls her eyes as she turns around in her room, opening her closet.
While she’s distracted, he takes the opportunity to step inside her room. It’s a typical bedroom for a 20-year old girl, right away he notices a lot of her discarded clothes on the carpet, he has an eye on an orange thong that she must have been wearing earlier.
Ryan's gaze is drawn to the orange thong lying on the carpet, his eyes widening slightly. He quickly averts his gaze, not wanting Luna to catch him staring.
Luna, meanwhile, seems oblivious to Ryan's eyes. She's rummaging through her closet, her back turned as she searches for something. “What are you looking at?” she asks abruptly, glancing over her shoulder.
Ryan flushes, his cheeks turning red. “Nothing,” he mumbles, his eyes darting around the room, looking anywhere but at Luna or her used panties. “I was just... admiring your decor.”
Luna snorts, rolling her eyes. “Right. Well, if you're done gawking, you can leave now.” She turns back to her closet, her tone dismissive.
But Ryan doesn't move, his feet seeming to be glued to the spot. He clears his throat, trying to regain his composure. “Luna, wait. I... I didn't mean to intrude. I just wanted to say goodnight.”
Luna sighs, closing her eyes for a moment before turning to face him. “Goodnight, Ryan,” she says, her voice flat and uninterested. “Now go away.”
She turns back to her closet, effectively ending the conversation. Ryan hesitates for a moment longer, then nods, backing out of the room.
As he closes the door behind him, he can't help but wonder what Luna thinks of him. Does she see him as an intruder, a nuisance? Or is there a chance, however small, that they could become friends?
