Chapter 8 by Sixth Sixth

What should you prioritise?

Try both at once – raid a village

This wasn’t the sort of thinking you liked to do. Rather than try and find the balance between more goblins to help you grow in power and more women to help grow your litter there was one obvious solution that screamed itself at you.

If you raided the nearest human village you’d surely find female flesh and surely attract goblins to your pack. Goblins always knew. They’d come sniffing around looking for a strong leader and safety. They had a knack for it. One of the few skills they actually had.

Decision made. Easy.

You told the goblins of the raid when they came back from burying their fellow and gave them just one day to prepare. You didn’t really want to wait any longer but the village was several days hike from here and although you could do that without eating it would be better if the gobbos brought some food along.

The next morning you left the den, goblins in tow, and made your way towards the human territory. It was an easy walk. There wasn’t a rival bugbear that you could smell for many miles. There weren’t even any larger monsters. Mind you, there didn’t seem to be many humans either. This must really be on the outskirts of their territory.

On the fourth day of walking and long, lazy naps by the campfire you made the gobbos build every night, the ramshackle village came into view. As usual the humans had found a horrible place to build their homes. A small river twinkled in the sun light. The nearby meadow of flowers smelt sweet. The buildings were on a small hill that rose gracefully from the ground, catching the golden rays of sunlight, the green grass looking healthy and strong. Yuck.

What to do? Try and lurk around until twilight and attack then? Or just attack now before you’re spotted? Urg! More decisions.

What's your tactic?
