Hunter flashed a confident smile, ready to take his shot. “Alright, here’s a good one: Why did the scarecrow win an award?”

Livvy looked at him, her curiosity piqued. “I don’t know. Why?”

“Because he was outstanding in his field!” Hunter said, beaming with pride.

There was a beat of awkward silence. Livvy gave a polite but unenthusiastic chuckle, while Vicky simply raised an eyebrow, her smile barely flickering.

Hunter’s joke had fallen flat, and the silence that followed was almost palpable. He shifted uncomfortably, realizing his attempt at humor hadn’t quite hit the mark. Livvy cleared her throat, trying to recover the moment. “Sorry sport, but too many men have told us that joke before.”

Vicky tried to smooth things over with a smile. “Yeah, I don't get it. All you men always use this joke.”

Despite the stumble, Hunter’s hopes weren't completely lost. He gave a sheepish grin and shrugged. “Guess I’ll need to work on my material. Let's ahead inside yeah?”

Livvy and Vicky exchanged glances, their interest momentarily waning but still there. “Alright,” Livvy said, coyly. “We’ll see if you can redeem yourself later.”

Vicky nodded in agreement, and although the joke hadn’t gone as planned, Hunter’s good-natured recovery at least helped salvage the moment .
