Chapter 17

How does Mya Respond?
Truth
"They didn't.... have time to learn about that." Mya muttered. She kept her face low and turned away from the machine.
"... wait why didn't they .... have.... time..." Jenny started to ask before her pupils turned to exclamation points as she figured it out, "OH MY GOD I'm..... cricky that was..." Jenny sputtered as she fought for the right words. Mya just motioned with her hands to calm down.
"It's... fine. You didn't know. It is a sore spot though so can we just... skip over it?" Mya asked as she took another sip of her drink.
Jenny nodded but still shuffled in her seat a bit. Mya looked her over before shaking her head. The poor robot looked like she shoved her entire foot in her mouth. In fact, given her body, Jen could probably do that which was a funny thought. Still, Mya only spent most a day with her, and Jenny felt more human than some of the people she knew in high school. Better to try and make her feel better than let her stew in her thoughts.
"Look I'll.... avoid how they died and talk about them and my life a bit more. Will that make you feel better?" the human asked. Jenny shuffed a bit before nodding. Mya let out a small huff of air as she made herself comfy.
Mya just started talking, the words coming slow at first but eventually flowed much easier the longer she talked. She told the robot of her childhood, her little city block and her highschool years. Carefully skipping over her parents ****; she talked about them, and her siblings, along with Granny. Jenny mentioned how Mya's grandma seemed to act a bit like her own mother, just with a lot more technical jargon thrown in. Mya laughed as she could see it.
"So wait your dad taught you mechanics?" Jenny asked when Mya mentioned it. The robot had laid out herself to get comfy, the pizza gone by this point and the tv on some cheesy movie with the volume low.
"Yeah. I was kinda a curious kid, wanting to learn how things worked. Kinda drove my mom nuts when I took things apart to see what was happening. She figured Dad could at the least keep my destructive tendencies in the garage rather than take apart another coffee maker." Mya said with a snicker.
"Sorry just used to girls I know being more..."
"Girly?" Mya asked. When Jenny shrank down just a bit, the human gave a small chuckle as she continued, "It's fine. Been through this song and dance a lot. Should have been girlier, should have been more prim, should have acted more proper; and at times I tried. Usually for my mom when she was trying to do like some play dates or outings with some of the other moms around. Never liked doing that though, always felt stuffy acting like that but you know, it was for family."
"You'd be the girl in the mud and tearing dolls apart then huh." Jenny asked with a smile.
"Only to see how their limbs moved if it was automated or something." Mya answered, as she gave a small sigh and chuckle, "I didn't invited back after that one party."
"PFFFF haahahhah there's a story there." Jenny laughed.
"Yeah well Granny backed me. Little girl who's party it was, she was kinda a prima donna in the making. Maybe she was, little tyke went on to be queen bee of her highschool, but we went to different places so it's not like we butted heads the entire time." Mya cupped her chin in though, before giving a weak snap of her fingers, "I think she works for the city now but that's the last I heard of her."
"And before you ask, no I don't think she had anything to do with my current problems about getting my shop up and running again." the human said with a dismissal wave, "She can't be that much of a bitch to hold grudge that long. Besides I think she works for Parks and Recreation rather than Zoning Laws or Business."
"Kinda weird about all that red tape then..." Jenny said, "About your dad's shop I mean...., hey if you want, I could maybe scan some of the documents while we wait for the warp device to warm up."
Jenny's robotic brain was probably better suited to handling all the legal jargon. But at the same time, Mya kept seeing the amount of 'favors' the robot was offering up, and all she did in return was just to help the bot get home and maybe patch things up with her mom/creator. Jen was a nice girl, but it didn't feel right to ask for help and not give anything back.
"Maybe later. It is getting kinda late though, and today's been... draining?"
"Draining's a good word." Jenny replied as Mya got up and stretched, giving off a small yawn herself.
"Do you even need to sleep? No offense." Mya asked as she started to clean up from dinner and headed into the kitchen.
"Kinda yes Kinda no?" came the answer as Jenny got up and followed to make it easier to talk, picking up her own left behind mess to throw away or put in the sink, depending. "I'll spare you a long technical explanation but yes, I do need rest to recharge my batteries so to say. But I can substitute that with energy from another source, like food or even plugging into a power source."
"So you could just plug yourself into the house."
"Or maybe eat 5 pizzas." Jenny said with a bit of a blush on her face, "Ugh I had to do that one time and it wasn't fun."
"Kinda weird that a robot needs to sleep." Mya said as she started running some water over her plate in the sink, holding out her hand to take Jenny's.
"I mean do you have your laptop on all the time?"
"Hmmm.., point."
"Sleep works the same way for me as it does in humans." Jenny said as she waited for Mya to be done. When handed a wet plate, Jenny's free hand turn into a large electric polisher and went to town, drying and cleaning the plate to a shine.
"Actually it might be more important for me than humans, given how much data I end up taking in and processing. Sleep lets me slowly break that down into more manageable packets or delete anything not important." Jenny continued as she put the plate away and took the next plate, "Sort of like cleaning your computer after a couple months."
"I suppose that makes a lot of sense, but you also have a lot of help processing all that info than humans do in the first place." Mya said, drying her hands with a nearby wash cloth.
"FYI, I do dream so you don't need to ask about that. Maybe not as vivid as humans though...., mom wised up after the first time I asked for dreams and installed something to wake me up if I start going too far... like sleep walking."
_"Think I remember some episode about that." _Mya thought to herself.
"Well, think that's everything put away. I'm gonna go turn in." Mya stated as she gave another stretch and started to head upstairs. Jenny followed but stayed at the foot of the stairs.
"If you don't mind, I'm gonna stay up, look at a few technical things around the house before turning in." Jenny said, giving a small wave as Mya accended.
"Hey... I said we'd take the night off." Mya said starting to come back down.
"It's just a few things, nothing in depth. Just want to make sure nothing is running that shouldn't be, or start up when we don't want it to. Maybe one run down on the bikes before sleep." Jenny said, waving Mya back up stairs, "Just go get some rest, I'll be up there soon enough."
"Well... okay. Just... if I'm alseep, don't make too much noise if you don't mind." Mya came back with a shrug before going back up.
