“Well, well…” Lae’Zel said with a hiss as they sat in the inn together. “How auspicious. One moment we had hated each others’ guts, almost killed each other, and now here we are the two that remain. Only this time I am no longer loyal to Vlaakith, and you are no longer loyal to Shar… the irony has not gone unnoticed.”

Shadowheart flipped her white hair back having finished rebraiding it. “Oh, Lae’zel. You were the last person I ever thought I’d care the most about, but at this point, we’re all we have left. So, I say we put our differences aside and have a few good drinks.”

Shadowheart waved to the barkeep who filled their tankards to the top yet again. “Shadowheart, your lightweightedness is going to be the end for us all. You let your guard down, and you never know what might strike you.”

“We already took on the netherbrain and the three Chosen Ones, what more could possibly challenge us?” Shadowheart said as she downed the full tankard in one swig.

Lae’Zel didn’t respond as she gazed at Shadowheart who was already beginning to sway. “You miss her… our tadpoled adventurous friend,” Lae’zel said. “You… mourn for her?”

“Of course, I do. She was the best of us,” Shadowheart said. “She helped me more than I even knew. And here we are drinking our sorrows away like two rubbish friends…”

Lae’zel sighed. “I must admit, I too miss our… friends. It seems like just yesterday we were all getting along with each other.”

“It was just yesterday,” Shadowheart said.

“Oh,” Lae’zel said. “Well, then perhaps we need to get our mind off of them. There’s nothing we can do to bring them back.”

Shadowheart downed another full tankard too groggy to understand what was even happening.
