Growing up as a female in the nation of Bannor is not always easy. The Bannor are characterized by their feverous devotion to their religion, known simply as "The Order." The Order emphasizes heroic, adventurous and warlike qualities in men and chaste, obedient submissiveness in women.

Preserving one's chastity is made more difficult by the opposite pressures put on the boys; before they can off to adventure or to war they must meet several requirements, one of which is that they lose their virginity.
