Chapter 2 by creamy_goodness creamy_goodness

Which adventurer do you follow

Trina, Human fighter

Any seasoned adventurer will tell you that there are a handful of rules you should always follow. These include: don't poke skeletons, you can always trust a flumph, and sometimes a chest is just a chest (but don't bet on it). But two of the most important rules are that you never split the party and you never go it alone. These last two are lessons that Sir Trina of West Howerland decided to ignore.

Being new to the adventuring life, what she lacked in experience, she made up for in confidence. It was well earned. She was perhaps the single greatest fighter in West Howerland

Many people underestimated her. This unfortunately had a lot to do with her looks. A lot of people believed that someone so beautiful couldn't also be a competent warrior. She stood at an average height. She had long, red hair, a lean but muscled frame, and an impressive bust. Any uninformed observer may have mistaken her for a lady of the court rather than a trained fighter. But this external beauty hid the fierce nature within her.

She came from a long line of prestigious warriors . She knew that much was expected from her. This had pushed her to be great. She had excelled in everything she did. Whether it was fensing, archery, horseback riding, or unarmed combat. Even mundane things like minor weapon and armor repair. Her tutors had had high hopes for her. It was with these lofty recommendations and high pedigree that the Adventures Guild was only too happy to let her join. Then things got complicated.

She had been part of two separate adventuring parties, and neither one seemed like a good fit. She felt it was nothing personal. The members of both parties had been welcoming as well as competent. But they had never seemed to mesh well with her adventuring style. It was true that she had tried to take more of a leadership role in each group and had received a fair amount of pushback. Her fellow party members were right when they pointed out her lack of experience, but she believed her training and lineage more than made up for it. It was due to this conflict of opinion that she had parted ways with both groups on mostly amicable terms. But despite her lack of an adventuring party, she was still an adventurer at heart. So she had decided, against the advice of her former party members and representatives from The Guild, to strike out on her own.

That's how she found herself alone on this old dirt path. Her only companion, a pack mule she had named Daisy. Most of her armor and weapons were stored away to make the journey easier. At the moment she wore a simple set of Travelers clothes and a short sword tied to her waist.

She slowed Daisy to a stop when she came to a crossroads. She noted with more than a little relief that the fork in the road was right where the map said it would be. At least the guild documents were reliable. Now there was the question of which road to take.

To the west, a fearsome orc warlord was terrorizing the countryside. To the east, a diabolical sorcerer was extorting the local towns. Both of these were noble causes. Now, she just had to decide which quest to undertake first.

Does she go east or west?
