Chapter 3 by Felixfalck Felixfalck

Who's spooooky adventures would you like to explore this evening?

Trick-or-treaters that are a little too old to go trick-or-treating

It's Halloween, and all the kids in the neighborhood are out and about, dressed as all kinds of monstrosities while gathering their fill of candy. Of course, the kids aren't the only ones traveling between houses, more often than not, they're accompanied by their parents or older siblings. Among the groups of children and the occasional adults, there's a more ..unique set of trick-or-treaters. What sets them apart from all the others? They're all well into their twenties.

While the whole goal of trick-or-treating is to get the treat, using the prospect of tricks as an underhanded tactic. This set of trick-or-treaters didn't really mind the candy gathering at all. In fact, they were more likely to give away any candy they were able to gather to some random kids by the end of the night. So why then, would a group of five adults bother with trick-or-treating, if candy wasn't the main motivator? Simple, they were all about the tricks.
Each dressed in a unique outfit, the main goal of the evening was the little game they'd made up for themselves. It's only objective was to make whoever opened the door as uncomfortable as possible, be that through their costume or whatever way they decided to carry themselves during the short candy handoff. The price? Glory ...And an all expenses paid weekend stay at a spa resort of the winners choosing, all generously provided by their sponsors, the losers.

Split into two "teams", team one consisted of Abbey, Audrey and Baron. Team two boiled down to being just Cassandra and Mai. Whichever player managed to arouse the greatest reaction from the person at the door during each individual house-visit would score a point for their team. Most of the girls, Mai, Abbey and Cassandra had each opted for costumes that would serve them especially well with the male crowd. Meanwhile, Baron had gone for a straight up shock factor. Lastly, Audrey felt that she had some catching up to do, with how "conservative" her costume was. One might think that this was unfair. How could a team of two have any hopes of bringing the fight to the team of three? Well, the point tally would be weighted to account for the lobsided teams. Any point scored by the smaller team would count as one and a half.

By the end of the evening, both teams were tied for points with only one house left to visit. The creepy, old one by the end of the street. It wasn't a house they'd ever visited on Halloween, even as kids. A witch was rumoured to live there, though they in their older years realized how silly that whole folktale was. Now, standing face to face with the house which had scared them growing up, the group were discussing who should go first.

"Your team went first in the first round, we should get dibs this time."

Baron wasn't about to lose on the last house. Especially not considering the fact that he'd been parading around the neighborhood in a dress the whole time.

"Sounds fair. I'm not too keen on seeing the witch firsthand, I'll gladly let you losers test the waters first."

Cassandra said teasingly, not actually convinced that there was a real witch living in the house.

"Sublime. I'll go first if you don't mind, Baron."

"All good with me."

And so Abbey would be the first person to approach the house, looking back with an exaggerated look of horror on her face as her feet made contact with the unkept tiled path leading to the front door..

Does the "witch" answer?
