Next Steps?
Treasure?
"Now that we have introductions out of the way would you like a tour of the facility? I can explain what functions are available in each room" she asks cheerfully.
"Sure, that sounds great. We'd like you to meet Annabel too" you respond.
"I'm talking with Annabel right now" she says in a very matter of fact tone.
"Ahh, right, you can probably be everywhere at once inside this place I'm assuming" you ask as much as state.
"That is correct. I am aware of all that goes on within this facility, and I can watch what is happening outside as well" she responds. You turn to look at the girls blush a little bit as the implication of having an all seeing AI hits them. You suddenly scrunch your face a little though.
"What do you mean you can watch what is happening outside" you ask. In response Dawn phases out of existence and in her place a screen appears. On the screen is a planet. The camera zooms in on the planet showing the continent you are currently on, then zooms in even further showing the bluff and the two large doors that are open, and finally it zooms in even further on the two open doors giving you a little view of inside The Sanctuary. You realize you'd easily be able to see someone looking up and waving if anyone was standing there currently.
"You have a satellite in space" you state knowing that is what it is. "Another treasure this place has to offer. So many ways that could come in handy" you say thinking to yourself as the screen phases out and Dawn returns.
"How do you know about what a satellite is" Dawn asks.
"Well how much do you know of the gods and magic" you ask.
"I am probably the single most knowledgeable entity on the subjects" Dawn replies without even a hint of humility. You believe her though.
"Remi brought me here from another reality or maybe just another world. In my world technology still exists in abundance, though not as advanced as what is here, or at least was here...is here again now I guess? Anyways, we had satellites too" you reply.
"Fascinating" she says looking you up and down again. You get the feeling that you've suddenly become a lot more interesting to her the way you are being looked at. "Follow me please" she finally says.
Dawn fades away once again, and you see a line appear on the ground. An arrow flows along the line showing you which way you should travel. Following along you see the line travel to the storage room and finally you find yourself standing in front of the door you couldn't open earlier. Dawn appears and you see Annabel following her own line to the group.
"I am hesitant to show this room to anyone. It is a room that has one purpose" she says stroking the door.
"What purpose is that" Annabel asks.
"Death" Dawn replies. She fades away once again the door slides open.
Stepping inside you see boxes similar to the storage room, but looking around you already know what this room is storing. Yet another room that houses guaranteed conflict at your doorstep. Along the walls are various forms of armor and weaponry. You step forward and open the lid on one of the boxes, and inside you find neatly stacked boxes of ammunition. The next box contains what appear to be some type of rifle. The next box houses what you assume is explosives. Looking around there must be two hundred boxes, and there is another door open across from you where you can see even more boxes.
"Rifles, handguns, machine guns, explosives, rockets, and many other devices used for war" Dawn says appearing next to you. "Does this room make you happy" she asks in a deadpan voice.
"No" you respond still lost in thought.
"No...but you can conquer so much with just this room alone" Dawn replies. Her voice sounds like she is testing you.
"That is a fact, and I know death will be part of my goal. This room will allow us a serious advantage, but all this room does is scare me" you reply shutting the lid and stepping away from the box.
"Why" Dawn asks.
"We're already putting a target on ourselves by being here and exposing the existence of it to this continent eventually, but at least some people who seek this place out will be good people. People we can work with, people we could call an ally...friends. This room is only going to bring one type of person, and faster than anyone else. People who want the items in here to conquer and control. On top of that these weapons are such an advantage that we will be able to kill many enemies before they have a chance to surrender. I don't like killing people, even my enemies..." you trail off.
"But killing all of your enemies might be the only way to accomplish your goal" Dawn replies with a sympathetic voice.
"What did your people do in such situations" you ask Dawn.
"My...people...would not hesitate to use force if all other options were eliminated. In your situation I do not see a path that does not involve the use of force. You currently have no leverage to initiate diplomacy, nor would diplomacy lead to the eradication of slavery until they are convinced you can kill all of them...and maybe not even then" Dawn replies sadly.
"That's what I thought too" you reply letting a sigh out.
"You do realize that because this room scares you, and you show respect for the devastation it represents, that you are most qualified to be responsible for it. You see that right" Dawn asks seriously.
"Wouldn't a military leader be more qualified" you ask confused.
"A leader is not someone who is most knowledgeable of a subject, although that can certainly be a benefit. A leader is someone with the conviction to make the decisions other's shy away from so that those you lead have the best chance of survival. That means they need to be mindful of more than just the present. A military leader would see this room and only consider a military application. A real leader sees this room and recognizes both the positive and negative applications of it, so that they can make the best choice for their people's future. You are such a person" Dawn replies.
"Fuck me" you whisper to yourself.
"Maybe later" Dawn replies smirking. You look at Dawn in surprise of her little joke, and let out a half chuckle. You weren't sure if she was being serious about it, but her joke brought you out of your funk all the same. It made you mindful of what needed to be done with this room in the immediate future.
"We're going to have to do a lot of training with this weaponry ladies" you said to your group. "Proper handling, proper maintenance, proper usage. Would you be willing to help us Dawn" you ask.
"Yes, I am more than willing. May I make a suggestion" she asks.
"You don't need to ask before giving me your opinion on something Dawn. I'm sure all of us are more than happy to hear your opinion on something" you reply.
"Very well" she says smiling at you "I would recommend that everyone learns how to properly handle all weapons, but each of you should focus on specializing in specific weapons" Dawn states.
"Makes sense to me" you reply.
"Why not learn all of them" Jane asks.
"It's like any other learned skill. If your focus is too broad you may be knowledgeable broadly, but you will never be an expert of one thing, and right now we're going to need some experts" you respond smiling at her.
"For now I can be the expert on everything" Dawn adds. Her statement makes you wonder for a moment what her autonomy is, but you can worry about that later you figure.
"Well I say we move on from this for now. We still have a lot to do before we start focusing on training for war" you say trying to get out of the room as soon as possible. "Dawn, you mentioned you could show us a more detailed tour of the facility" you ask.
"Certainly. I would be happy to show you what The Sanctuary has to offer you" Dawn replies. "Please follow me" she says disappearing again and a solid line with flowing arrows appears.
Dawn shows you the rooms you'd already seen and their capabilities. You were happy to be shown an intercom system in every room. You could communicate to a specific room or to all rooms. The girls were also happy to be shown how the bathtubs worked, while you were happy to be shown some shower stalls you hadn't noticed while you were in there. In fact several rooms seemed to have doors that were not easily visible and you wondered about that. One such room in the kitchen and dining area led to a room for the production of potions. Another hidden door led down another flight of stairs where there were a series of individual quarters that were quite fancy. In the rooms you could access the entire database of the library to learn from, and to everyone's delight there were entertainment options as well. Plus...you were happy to see larger beds.
Another benefit of the individual quarters were the attached bathrooms. All were stocked with showers, but Dawn explained she could have the robots refit them with bathtubs if desired. The women in your group jumped on that opportunity. As the day went on your group moved all of the dinos and your equipment into The Sanctuary. Copper had been able to kill five deer and two young dinos. Lysander did not bring any prey back, but by the blood on her mouth you suspected she was able to get herself some dinner. Dawn set her robots to the task of skinning and processing the successful hunter's catch. You made sure to give Copper a lot of love for his help.
The group was all exhausted as the doors to The Sanctuary closed up, and you all agreed that tonight was a night for rest. However, Annabel pulled you aside as you all made your way to your rooms.
What did she have to say?
