Training with the captain.

Through the day, Megan kept looking at you and Taylor. It was starting to make things kind of awkward. Shockingly, Taylor said she wasn’t feeling in the mood for sex, and while it was extremely disappointing, you decided against making her do it since she looked lost in thought.

So that led to the end of Friday, and the start of your first training session with Brad, the captain of the basketball team.

The two of you were in a public basketball court in the park.

“It seems neither of us really want to be here, John, but if none of us shows results quickly, we’re in deep shit, so we better get to work.”

Brad says. It’s clear he hates the idea of doing this, but it seems the threat of some of his secrets coming to light is worse.

You run laps together around the court before going into 1v1 matches, in which you are utterly destroyed.

“Your legs are way too close together! Widen your stance!”

“Hold the ball, then pivot on one leg to move faster!”

“Don’t just lob the ball from below! Hold it up and aim!”

At least you can dribble well enough not to get called out. Still, Brad is giving honestly good advice, if a little forceful.

You feel like you’re about to die. You’ve been running for about two hours with five minutes breaks every 15 minutes.

When you’re finished, you sit down on a bench. You’re breathing harder than you ever have.

Brad sits next to you and hands you a sport’s drink, which you chug like you life depends on it.

“Thanks…” You tell him.

“This is the best way I know how to train. Get tired and push through your limits. Next time, you realize you can go ever further.” He explains.

The two of you stay in an awkward silence before it is broken by your phone ringing.

The opening theme of one of your favorite shows plays. It is extremely embarrassing that you forgot to change it while you were with Brad. After all, watching these kinds of shows is the reason you’re labeled as a nerd in the first place. On the bright side, he probably doesn’t even know where it’s from, and it could pass for normal smooth jazz, anyway.

Brad is looking at you with wide eyes. You stand up and answer the phone. It’s Taylor.

“Hey Babe. Are you done for today?” She asks.

“Yes…” You say with a ragged breath. “We just finished…”

“Good. Look, I want to talk to you,” She says. “I’ll go pick you up. I’ll be there in ten.”

She leaves no room to argue as she hangs up.

“Given by how little you spoke, I assume that was Taylor.” Brad says from his seat.

“Yeah…” You nod.

“How did you even get with her?” He asks, both to you and to himself.

“I couldn’t tell you…” It was true, he couldn’t tell him about his power. Fortunately, Brad took it as you not understanding Taylor.

“Look… be careful with Taylor, okay? I know that right now you’re thinking this is the best that has ever happened to you but get ready for when she gets bored of you.” He warns. “It’s gonna be a hard fall.”

He sighs heavily. “Well, I’m leaving.” He gets up and grabs his things. “See you later, space cowboy.” He says, waving back without turning to you. You stare at his back, speechless and astonished.

Did he… did he just…

He couldn’t have…
