Chapter 5

What happens to Tommy?
Tommy becomes Tomi
“Let’s start simple,” Kekyll murmured, his voice quiet with anticipation as he thumbed carefully through the RAC’s parameter interface. He settled on something subtle yet clearly transformative:
[SUBJECT: TOMMY MCFIRTH | PARAM: GENDER INVERT | STATUS: READY].
He glanced up, smiling reassuringly. “Ready, Tommy?”
Tommy grinned back, entirely too trusting. “Totally. Science away, Doc!”
Kekyll took a breath, steadied his thumb over the activation trigger, and pressed.
The room flickered—imperceptibly brief, like a skipped frame in an old film reel. Tommy blinked, eyes momentarily distant, then focused again, a gentle curiosity now resting softly on his face.
Kekyll held his breath, eyes locked on the subject.
It began slowly, almost shyly: Tommy’s angular jaw softened first, subtle reshaping rippling gently across the contours of his face. Cheekbones rose just slightly, skin smoothing as faint stubble faded completely from sight. Kekyll watched, pulse quickening, as Tommy absently brushed longer hair behind one ear—a lock that hadn’t existed a second ago.
“You okay, Tommy?” Kekyll asked cautiously, careful not to disturb the delicate balance of perception.
The student cocked her head slightly, eyebrows knitting in confusion. “Uh, yeah? Wait—Tomi, you mean?” She laughed lightly, a higher pitch now unmistakably feminine. “You professors always forget names.”
“My apologies, Tomi,” Kekyll replied, voice carefully neutral, heart racing. Reality adjusted itself as he observed—instantly correcting for the error. Fascinating.
His eyes shifted lower, focusing intently as Tomi’s shoulders gradually narrowed beneath her oversized hoodie, its fabric gently reshaping to fit her smaller frame. She absentmindedly adjusted the sleeves, oblivious as they tightened, slimming elegantly to her now slender wrists. Her fingers, slender and feminine, fiddled idly with a loose thread at her sleeve’s cuff—fingers that moments ago had been thicker, squared, awkwardly masculine.
She leaned back slightly in the chair, adjusting her posture unconsciously. The cargo shorts she wore twitched briefly, then smoothly recut themselves into form-fitting denim shorts that hugged hips growing subtly fuller, rounding gracefully. Her legs lengthened ever so slightly, calves becoming gently toned, the muscles defined yet softly feminine.
Still, Tomi noticed nothing.
“So, this perception thing,” she mused thoughtfully, voice melodic and earnest. “Like, am I supposed to see something weird now?”
Kekyll smiled, shaking his head slowly. “Just focus on how you feel.”
Tomi nodded, oblivious to the way her chest gently expanded beneath her shirt, fabric stretching and reshaping to accommodate curves she now took entirely for granted. Kekyll observed closely, noting the barely-perceptible shift as reality seamlessly transitioned—a sports bra strap peeked briefly from beneath her hoodie’s collar, completely unnoticed by its wearer.
Even Tomi’s sandals shifted subtly—becoming narrower, more stylish, straps repositioning slightly to accommodate feet smaller and more delicate than before. Her toenails gleamed faintly, painted with a pale blue polish as if they’d always been so.
“I feel pretty normal,” Tomi said cheerfully, completely oblivious to the massive shift she’d undergone. “Are we starting soon, or—?”
“In a moment,” Kekyll assured her gently, careful not to disrupt the subtle fabric of perception. The monitors nearby hummed quietly, recording data in furious bursts of digital activity.
He took in every detail, marveling at how perfectly the RAC had adjusted not only Tomi’s form but her own self-perception. Her memories, personality, mannerisms—everything adapted seamlessly. Tomi remembered only Tomi, the girl she’d apparently always been.
“Fascinating,” Kekyll whispered softly to himself, heart hammering in exhilaration.
Tomi tilted her head, giving him an inquisitive smile. “What is?”
“Nothing,” Kekyll replied, composing himself with professional ease. “Just preliminary observations.”
“Oh,” she replied brightly, shifting slightly again, legs crossing comfortably, now entirely at home in the newly reshaped body. “Well, cool. I mean, science is important, right?”
“More than you can imagine,” Kekyll murmured, eyes alight with the infinite possibilities swirling through his mind. His fingers hovered greedily above the RAC, eager now to push its limits further.
