To be put to rest.

"Ms. Arch priest," Khiel spoke to Aqua, making her momentarily recoil, her distaste for the undead clear in her expression. "Would you purify me?"

"...huh?" Aqua asked, not having expected THAT. After all, pretty much everyone who became a lich did so in order to "live" forever. He was basically defeating the purpose by asking for assistance with commiting suicide.

"You have the power to lay a lich to rest, do you not?" Khiel continued. "In exchange, you may all help yourselves the the remaining treasure in my dungeon, limited to this room it may be," he gestured towards the chests he had stowed in this secret chamber.

"O-of course!" Aqua agreed, beginning to cast her Sacred Turn Undead spell.

As the light filled the room, Khiel remarked gratefully, "Ah, you are a great help... In order to protect my beloved, I abandoned my humanity and became a lich, but then could never die... Even now, when I no longer have reason to stay in this world..." He turned towards his beloved a final time, and continued solemnly, "...all through our lives as fugitives, she never complained once. She was always smiling. I wonder... Did I make her happy?"

Kazuma actually paused at that. He was actually touched by that sentiment, and thought about his relationship being his own girls.

"...Arch Wizard Khiel," Aqua intoned. "You who abandoned the divine plan and became lich. In the name of the Goddess Aqua... I forgive your sin. On the other side, you will meet a goddess named Eris. If you wish to see your beloved again, in whatever form she may be in, then ask her for it. If your heart is true, I'm certain she will grant your wish."

Just before fading away for good, Khiel reached for the hands of his beloved, placing his own upon them. And then he was gone. Kazuma stood, stunned. It was so rare seeing Aqua actually act the part of a goddess, it always felt odd when he got a legitimate reminder.

"...shall we grab the gold now!?" Dust asked eagerly.

"Hold on," Kazuma replied, holding a hand out. "Let's... Just have a moment of silence out of respect first, shall we?" The party paused, before nodding. Kazuma might be a big asshole, but he did have some standards!
