What has Scarlet forgotten?

To Remember to Forget

Chapter 85 by GivenUpOnTrying GivenUpOnTrying

I'd almost forgotten what it feels like to wake up in the morning without a dog barking at the postman... How much did I end up drinking? Feel like I got hit by a truck. I swear, I'm gonna smash this godforsaken alarm. Elise is so warm, bed is so warm. Not today alarm. Today is for sleep...

"Wake up bitches, it's the last day!" Trish's voice vibrates through my body as she bangs on the door. Shit, I can't skip on the last day, really this is on me for drinking so much... I think. Or I was actually hit by a truck. I can't remember either way. I pull myself out of bed and yank the covers off my sleeping girlfriend, who groans at the cold rush of air.

"Wake up Moon, we have school." I explain, while she sleepily grasps around for the duvet. No chance, I pull it off the bed entirely, if I have to suffer this then so does she.

It takes a minute for Elise to realise what I've done, until she finally opens her eyes and looks around, which are then filled with betrayal. "I don't love you anymore." She moans, burying her face in her pillow.

"Yeah you do." I laugh. "Come on, we both need a shower, you reek of booze."

It's truly the sign of a loving relationship when we can say horrible things to each other... I mean, I think. Either that or she's going to end up murdering me. Eh, I'd die happy.

Elise finally pushes herself off the bed and sleepily wanders to take my hand and leads me towards the bathroom. Thankfully, it's free. Showering together is definitely something that's gotten less sexy with time. Turns out shower sex is a nightmare, the water makes your skin all sticky, and there's never enough room to manoeuvre. plus there's the constant worry about slipping and breaking our necks...

The real world ruins all my fun. Still, it turns out, it's a great place to gossip, since no one can overhear you. I think the Japanese have got this right, communal bathing is great... I mean, as long as it only includes me and the girl I'm in love with... Okay, strike that, this is fine.

"Do you remember much of last night?" I ask her as we get undressed and begin running the water.

Elise is the first to step in, holding my hand to help me inside. "Do you not? We stole all that cocaine and fled to the Mars, can't believe you forgot!" She grins, reaching for the soap.

"You're hilarious!" I reply sarcastically. "Just wanted to make sure I didn't forget anything important."

"Oh, well, in that case, good news, you have a niece, you mostly got along with Jenny, and you fell asleep with your hands on my tits." She reassures me.

So no bad behaviour, I'll take that. "Well, can you blame me, I mean, look at them!" I retort, gesturing to Elise's lathered-up boobs. just because I'm not a fan of shower sex, doesn't mean she isn't the hottest thing in the known universe. "Did Jenny stop here?" I ask, changing the conversation before I get too focused on Elise's body.

"Yeah, slept on the sofa, we offered her your Mum's room, but she said she didn't want to impose." She explains, washing off. That seems fair, honestly, I'm almost annoyed she's given me so little to be angry about. If she were a slob or a bitch I'd at least have an excuse for being so conflicted, as it stands I feel like the asshole for holding a grudge against a perfectly polite house guest.

I've got to at least put the effort in, otherwise I'm as bad as I said Jenny was, and that's... That's something I never want to be.

Elise and I take a seat in the cafeteria. It's less busy than I thought, I guess people are taking the opportunity to go outside of the school to say their goodbyes, makes sense I suppose, but for me? This is the place where Me, Elise, Trish, and Rouge first talked. This place was the genesis of everything that would follow... It feels fitting for it to be the place we say our farewells... I mean, sort of, most of us live together and Trish stays over most nights, so it's more a goodbye to the building.

The more I think about this the more stupid it sounds.

Trish and Rouge soon join us at the table, bickering away about plans for this evening. Henry and Gabriel appear too, they got into the same university, Henry even managed a scholarship for Rugby, kind of lucky considering his lack of studying. Gabriel's going to study psychology full time, makes sense when I think of how good he is at the whole advice thing. He's like a therapist I'd actually listen to.

Kara makes her appearance next, followed closely by Jenny. Kara told me she was going to Business School, wants to run her own company, be a role model, that kind of thing. Kara's always been sort of hard for me to read, almost intimidating, but I guess those would be useful traits in the boardroom. Jenny... Well, it's Jenny, she didn't seem too committed to doing anything in particular last night. I suppose we'll see.

"To us, for making it to the end of school with no one getting arrested!" Trish offers, raising her can of soda. We all join her with a cheer, but in all seriousness, some of the things we've gotten away with probably shouldn't be legal. I complain about the world conspiring against me, but we've been pretty lucky.

"So, Elise, what are your plans now? You said you scrapped Uni, right?" Kara asks.

I've always suspected Kara has a crush on Elise, but I've never bothered to ask, and I trust my girlfriend, so it never felt worth doing. I'm not going to push it on my last day, I know Kara's not the type to make a move anyway, she's just... Overly familiar sometimes.

"I've got a few ideas..." Elise responds, before looking to me with pleading eyes. Maybe I'm psychic because I already know what she's asking. I give a confirmatory nod and she can't resist squealing. "Okay, so, me and Lapin are moving in together, like, on our own." She reveals.

There's a couple of shocked faces, a couple of 'aww's, but the most noticeable reactions are from Rouge and Trish, who don't really react at all.

"Yeah, no shit." Rouge answers. "Didn't you decide that in the first five minutes of meeting each other or something? You two are like the most couple-y couple, it would be weirder if you didn't move out together."

Alright, fair point. I guess it isn't as big a deal to them, since we've all essentially lived together for months... But It means a lot to me, and that's all that matters. I look to Elise, who meets my gaze, and give her a big smile.

"How're you planning to pay for that then? Job market's dead around here." Kara points out. Alright, rain on our parade. Envy's not an attractive look on anyone.

"I've already got a job, remember?" I answer confidently. A silence fills the table. Why are they so surprised? I found out-

Shit.

I never told them.

I forgot about it.

This is the absolute shittest reveal of this news I could possibly have done.

"Oh, fuck! Yeah! I got the job!" I reiterate. This time the excitement is more unanimous, with Trish leading a big cheer, and Elise planting a huge kiss on my lips. "Sorry, Sienna was born, and I completely forgot to bring it up, then I just forgot I'd forgotten." I explain, only to be greeted with more confused faces from Gabriel, Henry, and Kara.

"Who's Sienna?" Gabriel asks.

I'm the worst at delivering news.
