Chapter 5 by Cyberweasel89 Cyberweasel89

Enter the cave and begin your test of courage?

Time to go spelunking! And camping... Spelamping?

With a deep breath, Eve stepped into Snake's Remains Cave. She'd pretend she didn't shudder as the blue sky gave way to a dark cave ceiling. She'd pretend she didn't whimper when the light from the entrance surrendered to a darkness only illuminated by her phone's light. She'd pretend she wasn't worried about some monster or murderer hiding in here. She was a girl of science! She wasn't going to fall to superstition!

And it was precisely this reason that, once she found the central cavern, she wasted no time setting up her tent! Nothing to do with wanting to get into some more secure space! Just practicality, nothing more! Ghosts aren't real! Monsters are just in fiction! The statistically probability of a murderer hiding out in here is just astronomically unlikely! Not impossible, but unlikely...

Okay, okay... Calm down, Eve. She paused in the middle of setting up another support for her tent, placing her left palm on her flat chest and taking a calming breath. A reach into her dress pocket and she produced her inhaler, taking a puff. Relax, Eve. Relax. Just one night and there was nothing against spending it snuggled inside her tent with her Kindle and snacks. Just one night and she'd be in the Reptile Science Club as their newest member...

It was nightfall when she was finally inside her secure little tent with her space heater set up and all her "supplies" all feng shui'd. The cave was cool at best but with autumn ongoing and winter coming up, well... Eve was always sensitive to the cold. The space heater was battery powered and it was actually a commercially available model that her friend Case had jury-rigged so that it could be run short-term on a battery! She smiled and giggled to herself, reminding herself to thank her tinkerer friend yet again as she felt the warmth from the device fill her tent.

The makeshift camping structure had a sleeping bag, several blankets, pillows, plushies, and various dry snacks strewn about. If anything, it was starting to feel like a personal hidey-hole to her. Her own little hideout where she could be alone and just read or game. She wasn't agoraphobic or antisocial, but she was definitely an introvert... She liked people, but it was just easier to chat from a distance or one-on-one than to head outside in groups. If anything, now that she was in the security of her tent with the homey warmth of her space heater, it was kind of nice... She might just enjoy this initiation!

Eve grabbed here fully-charged Switch, firing up Animal Crossing: New Horizons for her daily actions like shaking all the trees and hitting all the rocks. After that she swapped over to Stardew Valley. She had a few novels on her Kindle if she wanted to change things up, including the entire Discworld and Stormlight Archive series. And if she felt like reading some smutty fanfiction or erotica, she had her Hitachi Magic Wand in her backpack! Ahhh, this would be the ideal life... A sedentary, comfy little hole where she could swap between games, books, and cartoons all she wanted, chat with people online, snack, and not have to go out.

But not wanting to go out wasn't the same as not wanting to let people in...

Later that night...
