Chapter 2

What happens next?
Time to go bug that cute girl.
She had short black hair and silver eyes that honed in on the cards that lay face down before her. She tended to do this to gain some skills of being a Federation police and know when her opponent was bluffing.
I sat down as she was distracted by the dealer passing out the cards and I didn't utter a word.
Nutainians are born with luck, so I'm practically cheating. She looks up at the couple of aliens who sat opposite to me before she turned and noticed I sat next to her. She gave a startling jump and then furrowed back to the cards.
The dealer set down the first set of cards. I took a peak to find myself with a two and a four. Wouldn't call it the best hand, but I could easily get a straight with the five the seven and the other four that lay on the table for all to see.
I turn to look her at her slightly to find she turns away furrowed that I must have interrupted her winning streak.
A six came down on the table and I bet all in. The two aliens folded and pushed their chairs in.
"So, Kori," her name being called made her look up at me mad as hell, "you gonna call my bluff and win this game or not?"
"Damn it Rohland, you can't seem to just let me be sometimes."
"You've got a king and an ace." she threw down the cards and stood up.
"Why are you better than me at this!?"
"At what? Poker?"
"No!" she gave an exasperated sigh and scampered off.
About a couple of months ago, she was a lead investigator going after stolen technology called Project EDEN FALL. When she could find no leads what so ever, my team was sent out on a black ops mission. It was suppose to be quiet, but Kori Sunrider found out that something was up when her, the ace detective was taken off the case. She tracked me and my squad mates down till we were at the center of the operations. As it turned out, Project EDEN FALL wasn't technology, that was a red herring for the real prize, the location of the enemy base on planet Shiv. Kori joined up with my squad when it seemed we were outnumbered thirty to one, but she didn't count on us surviving that easily. For a couple of months afterwards, my team was held up on Shiv and I decided to help her on her cases she hadn't solved fast enough. I proved to be the better detective in most cases and she seems to hold plenty of resentment towards me for just that.
I guess I should go after her, calm her down from her competitive fits. Then again, they're serving fresh lobster from planet Agro, them things are twelve feet long!
"Hey kid, you gonna play another round?" the alien dealer at the poker table asked me in a scratchy voice and he blinked twice out of sync.
Well, three choices...
