After having breakfast, which was cooked by Casey, I went to the shed outside. Wanting to make myself useful, I decided to occupy myself with mowing the lawn. The shed was old and the door creaks each time someone opens it. I spent a few minutes finding the lawnmower and pushing the tools out of the way so I can get to it.
As I exited the shed, I saw Sarah standing in front of my house. It always filled me with joy each time I see her smiling and this time was no exception. She ran over to me and hugged me. I squeezed her waist and we just listened to each other breath for a minute. She is wearing that perfume I got her for her birthday a few years back. It smelled great and I took a big whiff of it. The only other sound was the birds chirping on the roof of the houses. Sarah melted into my arms as I felt her warmth.
"Did your parents find out?" I asked Sarah. She responded by nodding.
"But they weren't that mad. I guess that they were happy that I'm with you." replied Sarah. "How did your parents react after I left?"
"Surprisingly well. They talked about how I should lock my door when you're over. I thought they were going to scream based on the experience Emma had with that guy."
"Yeah, I remember that day. I was over at your house when she brought home a guy, calling him her boyfriend. Your dad yanked him out of the house, fuming." giggled Sarah. I chuckled along with her. Sarah's giggle sounds so melodic to me and would relieve all my stress when I listen to it. It puts me at ease.
Our conversation was interrupted by someone yelling my name. I looked up and saw my mom's head poking out the window of my room. "Hey Jake! Your phone is ringing!" she yelled. I looked at Sarah and pecked her lips. "See you later." I told her. I ran up to my room before the ringing stops.
I looked at the caller ID and was surprised to see the number is from California. "Who is calling me from California? Could it be one of my friends?" I asked myself. But the number isn't one I recognize or I could have just forgotten whose it is. I pressed on the green answer button.
"Hello, Jake speaking."
"Hey Jake..."
I recognize that voice anywhere.
