Chapter 22 by manmanzane

Who is on the phone? Is it good or bad news?

Jake's Dream Job

"Hey Jake. This is the CEO of Activision, the gaming company that you applied to a few months back. My name is Robert." came the voice on the phone.

"Holy crap." I thought. I couldn't speak right now. I can't believe that the gaming company that I grew up admiring is calling me. My chest was about to explode with joy and I had a huge smile on my face. "Hi Robert." I replied.

"So, after reviewing your application, Activision would like to bring you on board as a programmer for our new games. We saw that you majored in technology in Stanford University. We are always on the lookout for new talents to propel our brand to the next level." continued the CEO.

As I listened to Robert, I got up on my bed and started jumping on it. It was something that I used to do when I was small and was very happy. Jumping on the bed was something I did to stop myself from screaming in joy or doing something crazy. I nodded at everything he said. After he was done with all the general stuff, I asked him a question.

"How much will I get paid if I work for you guys?" I asked. The answer nearly made me jump of my bed and fly to the moon.

"We are thinking of $1.5 million for your first year. Based on your performance, you could earn even more the following year. Eventually, you could be earning $10 million if you're that good." came the response.

"Oh my god! That is a huge load of money!" I thought out loud. There was a chuckle on the other side of the phone.

"So what is your response?" asked Robert.

"I would definitely work with you guys. Who would be crazy enough to not accept the job?" I told him. Robert laughed.

"So you're gonna come to headquarters in California and we can start soon. I'll call back soon to see if you change your mind. Just let this sink in first." he replied. "You'll soon be living the high life in California." Then, the line disconnected.

"Wait...California? Do I have to go back to California?" I asked myself. But Sarah and my family are in New York. My dream job where I could become a millionaire is in California. Do I really have to leave New York again? How would Sarah feel about me leaving? Do I just refuse the job then?

How did such good news make my life more complicated? I slowly walked out of my room and went back outside and saw Sarah sitting on the lawn, looking beautiful as always.

What should I do?
