Throw down the raft!

Thinking quickly, you toss the raft between this lilypad and the next. It floats, thank god.

"Oh no you don't!" You hear a shout from behind you, and the lilypads start shaking as something splashes rapidly towards you.

It's now or never, and with a nimble leap you jump to the raft and to the next lilypad. Success! And there's a straight shot to the opposite shore! The splashes only grow closer so you beat feet to safety, scrambling across lilypads, only just barely staying ahead of them as they're yanked underwater.

You take a sudden left as the next pad is dunked as well. Whatever they are they've caught up.

Your path becomes more zigzaggy, taking every opportunity to inch closer to the safety of land. You see a path and make a break for it. Four lilypads, three lilypads, two lilypads, one lilypad!

The next leaf sinks into the water in front of you in tandem with the one behind. No other options you make the leap. Time seems to slow as you soar through the air. You're so close, you can't fail now...

You faceplant on the opposite shore, eating a mouthful of mud in the process. You lie there for a moment until you feel something wet brush your ankle and scramble even further from the cursed lake.

Finally safe, you sit up to catch your breath and wait for your heart to slow down. You glance towards the lake feeling triumphant over it and its horrible creatures.

Your fanfare is dampened somewhat when you see three men in the water, and they're... laughing?

"Goodbye, human! Have fun with the Bograve! Believe me, when he finds you you're going to wish you stayed here with us."

With a trio of mocking waves they melt back into the lake, leaving you alone with your overwhelming dread.

You look away from the lake at another path, even darker and more overgrown than the one you followed here. Where are you going?

And for that matter, what the hell is a Bograve?
