Chapter 9

Which route do you take?
Through the Forest
You doubt you have enough water to make the journey along the edge of the forest, and for some reason or other you are drawn to the safety that you may find within the shade of some of the largest trees you have ever seen in your life. When you were a child, you used to go to the small wood by your home and prance here and there pretending to be an elf. Your father would always scold you whenever he caught you as elves are the traditional enemies of the humans and the reason your people left their homeland in the first place. Regardless, you were always drawn to the stories and myths told by Bonatel's drunk storytellers. Your favorite was of the time when elves worshiped the woods and the twin spirits of dryads and satyrs, before the satyrs were corrupted that is. The legend always goes that it was because of the elves' new found warlike and hedonistic behavior that the forest spirits were corrupted.
You walk along the trees and hear sound after sound of insects and wild birds. Along the corner of your eye you even swear you see the silhouette of a wolf. You pick up the pace a bit and start running. As you are about to go down a slight incline your foot gets caught in something and you yell out in pain. You fall over and into what looked like some grass, but soon enough the grass along with yourself fall down into a pit and you are knocked ****.
In your dreams, you recall those times you were a child and paraded through the woods, however you also felt a dark presence chasing your child-self. You kept running and running until your foot was caught once more and you felt the terror and screamed out aloud.
"Calm down, we're trying to heal you," you look to and fro and see many women surrounding you in what appears to be a hut. Their hair is green and their eyes purple. Their clothes made of forest growth you realize from the tales that these women must be dryads! You try to move but you are tied to an oak table. No, their only tales though, you try to tell yourself. You continue to scream hoping that you awake from this dream. You look to your body and see blood pouring out of it from... a spike stuck right into your chest.
"Well, I didn't want to do this, but you're making too much noise," the closest one says to you. You look to her and see a green glow surround her hand and you enter into a deep, dreamless sleep.
You feel the warmth and hear the cackle of a fire as you start to awake. You hear a ringing coming from your hear and feel a tightness around your chest, but you lift yourself off the cot in what you assume is the same hut you first awoke in. It wasn't a dream then. You smell your surroundings and detect the traces of dried blood and you look straight at the oak table set with food in front of you. You've been without food for far too long to investigate anything and in your naked state go and eat off the table. As you are munching down on carrots and other vegetables the door to the hut opens and in walks in the green-haired creature from before.
Her body is tinted different from that of humans, almost a tint of yellow, and her form is sensuous beyond anything you think a human could accomplish. Her frame is covered slightly by the forest growth she uses as clothes and her purple eyes look like pools as they stare into you. She's carrying clothes. "I was hoping to be here before you woke up," my name is Ealeve and I'm the one who healed you.
"what happened?" You ask.
"You tripped over one of our traps for the poachers that enter these woods and suffered quite the injury," she looks at you apologetically, "when we noticed you were obviously not a poacher and had been attacked and abused by the evil of men we decided to spend some of our energy to repair you."
You think back and now are able to recall that as you fell into the pit you were impaled upon a spike. You were perched their praying to any gods that you hoped would listen, but eventually passed out. "Thank You," you say.
"Don't thank me yet, we were not able to heal you completely, so we were **** to... make some changes," she says.
Now you look at your hands and see how smooth and pale they have become. You look to the rest of your naked form and see the same change. Your body has become slightly skinnier and you are a bit taller than before. "Here take this mirror," the dryad says as she hands it to you. You use it and look straight at your face and the first thing that stands out to you is your newly grown pointy ears. Out of disbelief you pull at one of them with your left hand and the wince of pain tells you that they are in fact real. Your entire face has been changed to that of an elf, at least your hair color is the same, with the same grace and beauty you've heard accompanied by that race. Your movements feel different, faster and more agile. You stretch and realize you are even more flexible than before. You use your eyes to survey your every feature and realize that your sight has been improved and that you'd be able to see miles ahead now if you were on a flat plain. You look at the rest of your body now, and while you have become smaller and your ass has decreased in size, your sensuous body is beyond compare. "What has happened to me?" You ask.
"As we were unable to save you in your human form, it was in our power to grant the same gift we gave to the humans who worshiped us long ago. Your human body has been infused with our dryad nature and you have become what you call today, an elf. Pray, would you mind telling me your name?"
"My name is Madeline d'Bonatel," you respond.
"Now you are no longer human and that name is not yours, I will give you a suitable name for your new form as I was the one who imparted part of my power onto you. To keep it similar to your former name, you are now Malevia which in our tongue means 'reborn.' I have brought you some clothes to wear made from flaxen and a pair of boots we've recovered from a hunter we found in our woods."
You put on the flaxen clothes and they are a tight fit onto your body. The torso is just a simple shirt which is low cut. The skirt that accompanies it covers just barely part of your knees and the (you assume) dead man's boots are quite comfortable.
"If you'd like you can stay with us awhile longer, or you could just take some food and water we'd be happy to give you and you can continue on your way. I'd suggest avoid going to any of the elf-lands to the south as those people have long ago left behind our teachings and ways, thought you might want to see some of your 'own' people. I know the humans do not take kindly to any kind but their own, so I really do suggest you stay a bit longer to learn from us."
"what could you teach me?" You ask curiously.
"We can teach you the magic of the forest, reading, hunting, and weaving."
You are tempted to take all you can from this dryad and her people who nearly killed you.
Do you stay or do you go?
