Thoughtful drive

The trip home is surprisingly quiet, though once again Lili sings happily the whole trip. Emi seems lost in thought, looking out the window as you drive. As for yourself, you’re having deep thoughts of your own.

First off, Dr. Hass…no, Sam…seems to be on your side. Part of you is still worried that she’ll give Emi up to CompanionCorp, but it doesn’t seem like how she’s acting would fit with that worry. If anything, she seemed eager to learn more about Emi. Sam could be a valuable resource, and the fact that she’s extremely pretty is a bonus.

You shake your head. You already have two beautiful women in your life, it’s hardly fair to immediately start thinking about another. Especially when she showed no interest in that. You have other priorities.

You glance at Emi as you drive. The cat girl has her hat on again, concealing her three ears. You see her scarred face reflected in the passenger window as she watches the city go by. You weren’t really surprised by the fact that she was a bit jealous of Lili, but you resolve to make sure that she doesn’t feel left out in the future. Emi is important to you, and even though you’ve only known her for a short time, you’re already incredibly attached to the discarded cat girl.

You look in the mirror at Lili, who is bouncing in her seat as she sings along with the radio. She has a lovely singing voice, and her strange speech patterns don’t seem to manifest when she sings. She really is beautiful, and although you don’t yet love her the way you do Emi, you know it’s only a matter of time. You’re grateful for her words in the doctor’s office, and her seeming willingness to take a backseat to Emi.

You chuckle at your own pun, which causes Emi to look at you curiously. You shake your head. “Just a dumb joke in my head.”

Emi stifles a cough, and smiles. Gently, she places a hand on your leg. “Thank you for today. I know it was a risk, but you took it anyway, because you’re worried about me. It means a lot to me, love.”

You smile back at her. “You took a risk as well. And I’m sorry I’ve made you jealous.”

Emi shakes her head. “Put that out of your mind. Lili is wonderful. I’m so happy she’s here, no matter what my weird instincts say.”

Lili stops singing. “I can hear-hear you! Emi, thank you so-so much! I think we’ll be sooner happy-happy together!”

Emi laughs, a sound that is musical to your ears. “I think so too, Lili.”

You smile again as you pull in to park. “A weird, but cute family, I’d say.

Lili claps her hands. “Yay-yay! I like-like the sound of that, yes-yes!”

She bursts back into song, and you laugh. Emi chuckles and nods, leaning over to share a kiss with you before you both climb out of the car. Lili comes bouncing out as well, flapping her wings and flying a short way before landing with a twirl. The harpy’s happiness is infectious, it’s impossible not to smile around her. Putting an arm around Emi’s waist, you walk towards the door and the waiting, dancing harpy.
