Chapter 13

Friday night
Third house party
I met up with Jamie at the fountain and we walked together to the frat house. By this point it was a familiar sight, music and the sounds of party goers flowed over us as we entered. Tyler wasn't waiting for us this time, but we could find our way around well enough by now.
As we came into the living room Brandon clocked me almost immediately and came over.
"Well, look who's back again," he drawled. "You left last week before we could conclude our little disagreement. Care to give me the opportunity to convince you?" He flashed an amused smile at me which turned smug as he looked over at Jamie.
I was very aware that I had promised Jamie I would spend more time with him, but he could see I was conflicted.
"Go," he said, "Have fun, but try to wrap it up quickly? And come find me?" I nodded gratefully, my mind already racing trying to remember all my prepared arguments.
"Shall we go into the kitchen, my lady?" Brandon bowed with faux politeness. "It's a little less noisy in there."
Grabbing a beer, I took a seat opposite Brandon at the kitchen table, and launched into my prepared spiel.
"You brought up biological theory last time, men and women should stick with the roles that fit with their evolutionary past. Men are hunters and protectors, women are gatherers and child bearers. Today's societal structure is an outgrowth of this, and misogynist assholes like you think moving away from said structure is the cause of all the problems we have today." I took a deep breath before continuing. "First of all, even if it was natural, it doesn't make it right; anymore than dying of cancer is right just because it is natural. Secondly, even though you repeatedly claimed that women made themselves unhappy by being independent; your only proof for those claims were your anecdotal made up stories."
I stopped, breathing heavily while staring at him, cheeks burning. I had talked way too fast, and forgotten half the points I had wanted to make. My mouth was dry, I took a sip of beer to remedy the situation.
"You really came prepared," he responded "You're quite obsessed with me, aren't you?"
"Don't flatter yourself. You were just too good at distracting me from the main talking points last time. I needed time to think properly about your arguments to find the obvious flaws."
"So you think I'm distracting," Brandon quipped with a sleazy smile. "How about that."
"Not like that you perv!"
He was too good at getting to me, it was infuriating.
"Do you know how I managed to screw all those uptight sluts?" He leaned back staring me straight in the eyes, his posture confident.
"Your amazing imagination?"
"I have a sixth sense for that kind of thing, a slut sense if you will"
I couldn't help but snort at that, I took another sip of beer to hide my smile.
"And my slut sense has been ringing, ever since the first night you chewed me out."
"You're telling me I'm a slut in denial?" I rolled my eyes. "In your dreams perhaps. You're delusional."
"The lady doth protest too much methinks," he grinned that infuriating smug smile.
"You're an asshole."
"An attractive asshole you can't stay away from."
I got up from my chair. I was about to leave the room, just stopping in the doorway. If I left now, I let him win. Emptying my beer, I got a refill and stomped back to my seat.
"Fuck you," I said, trying to gather my thoughts. The room was spinning, my temple pounding.
"Very constructive," he replied dryly.
"You have a constructive rebuttal perhaps?" I was on the cusp of victory, I could feel it.
"There is one last point I want to make," he said as he stood. "Follow me."
With that he walked out the kitchen door, into the living room
"Hey, don't walk away on me asshole!"
I got up and stormed after him, only stopping when I saw him ascending the stairs to the second floor. He wasn't even looking back to see if I was following him, utterly arrogant. Was he trying to run away from me? Or did he think I was stupid enough to follow him up to the second floor of a frat house?
Bottom of the stairs, what to do?
