Think about it later

Christopher walks over to Kate smiling at her then turns to Mia and I saying, “Ok, I have talked to Mrs. Banks and heard some of the things that happen down there. So I think it is best that John goes with you Mia to get your things. From what I understand it might be hard for just Mia to go alone.

At that moment Kate steps into the conversation, “Now as me and Christopher have talked about, what happens after Mia gets her things will be up to the two of you. John you are 18 so I expect that you and Mia who is also 18 can work out a living arrangement that suites you both, and with that said I hope that if set arrangement causes any problem that Christopher and I will then step in and make a new one. The rules are that both of your grades most be a B average and that you two respect the rest of us living here. Meaning that the volume is kept low so you don’t disturb anyone, but for now lets get Mia’s things.”

Christopher smiled as Kate handed him the keys as the three of them walked out of the kitchen and headed out to Mia and John’s old neighborhood. While Kate stayed behind to explain what is going on to Beth and Cassie letting them know that for now it is temporary but might not stay that way. So Kate waved from the door as the three backed out of the driveway on their way to Lexington.

The drive was pleasant even though from what Mia and John knew this may not turn out all to well because Mia’s father never really liked John. On the drive to get Mia’s things Christopher was told about Mr. Perez feelings about John who responded, “I will talk to him when we get there, I think I can talk him into letting Mia move out, and transfer schools.”

Mia and John looked at each other and laughed then Mia says, “I am sorry to laugh Mr. Sanders but we know my Father. He isn’t the easiest person to talk with, he doesn’t like to listen all that well. He is very protective and has a big attitude, but that is just a cover for he just thinks about himself most of the time. Mom has a hard time in keeping him calm and focused when she talks to him.” She sighs a little as she thinks about all the time she has spent fighting with her dad about John, and now she is his girlfriend which she has wanted for a long time now.

That is how the conversation ended. A few minutes later they pulled into the driveway to Mia’s house. Nothing has changed from what John remembers a few months ago. Just as they pull up into the drive Mia’s mother Mrs. Perez comes out the door standing on the lawn with her hands on her curvy hips as they all get out of the full sized van. “MIA ANGELINA ROSALINA PEREZ JUST WHERE ON GODS GREEN EARTH…” Mrs. Perez started then she caught sight of John and Mr. Sanders whom she didn’t know. “Ah, you must be John’s foster father. I am Mrs. Perez and I am sorry if my daughter has caused you any trouble, and as for you John, I am sure you are to blame for all this. My daughter out all night only god knows where doing only god knows what…” this time Mr. Sanders interrupts her.

“It is indeed John’s doing that Mia did not return last night. After she came all that way to visit him they talked late into the night in the living room. When Mia went to leave John thought since it is so late that it would be safer for her to stay there for the night instead of risking something happening to her. For that I am proud beyond words at his good judgment, he even slept on the couch so that she could have a bed to sleep in. I am sorry that I did not call to inform you but with the hour as late as it was I thought it was best not to call.” His voice was soft and caring but also wells with pride and authority as he spoke.

Mrs. Perez’s eyes softened as he spoke to her, then she responds, “John I am sorry I think I misjudged you, anyone that is willing to have me and Mia’s father hate them so that my daughter is safe is ok with me. Please come in, Mr. Perez is at work and wont be home for a while. We can all go inside and talk about why all the trouble of all coming out here. I can tell something more is going on here then meets the eye, and I think we want to do this inside.”

They all walked inside, for how bad that side of town was the Perez home was surprising neat and fancy looking. Mr. Perez must work really hard to provide the money that would be needed to keep this place as good as it is and Mrs. Perez must work just as hard to keep it up. She ushered them all in asking them to sit while she goes to get some drinks for everyone. When they are all seated and had some refreshments into them she turns to Mr. Sanders and says, “Ok, now that we are all comfy I want to know what is going on? I can see something in my daughter’s eyes that I have never seen in her eyes before. I know that look and I want to know who it is for and why it just now came up. I know that John and Mia have been friends for a long time so it might not be him so I have to make sure I know what is going on here so I can find a way to break it to my husband when he gets home. Because I can tell by that van that Mia wont be here when he gets home, which in my mind would be a good thing.”

Mia just looks into her drink saying nothing and Mr. Sanders looks to John as if saying well step up this is your chance to show how much you are willing to do for Mia. John sighs then looks to Mrs. Perez, “What Christopher, Mr. Sanders says is true. Mia came to find me; she contacted Mrs. Banks my lawyer to find out where I was. She has always had feelings for me and all her boyfriends that she had have been to try and make me jealous. She wanted to come and tell me how she felt about me and tell me off for leaving without saying anything. I would have contacted her if I could have but they would not let me. So Mia and I had a long talk about our feelings and what might be done about them. Mia and I came to the realization that it would be better for us to still live near each other so that we can explore where our relationship might go. So we have all come to get Mia’s things and move her somewhere closer to the Sanders’ house and transfer her to the school there. It is my hope that a strong relationship can be forged between Mia and I and that I prove my love for her with every step that I take toward the rest of my life.” At the end of this little speech John toke a deep breath and exhaled sipped at his drink and looked at Mrs. Perez.

Mrs. Perez listened while John spoke and was moved by what he said and how he presented himself and his ideals. She looked at him now with a whole new light; the time he spent away from her daughter Mia had changed him. It seems that he is stronger and more of an adult then she remembered him. There is no doubt in her mind that those two will still cause some troubles but she is also sure that Mr. Sanders will keep them as in line just as good as anyone could. “Well, I think that would be a good idea as well. But… I think it would be better if Mia and John are both under your eye Mr. Sanders. I think these two would be better off under your care then under the care of two separate households, I know some of the things they can get into. But that is not really for me to decide. Whatever happens I am putting my trust in you Mr. Sanders, please make sure that my daughter is well looked after. And you John I expect you to protect and honor my daughter. If you hurt her I will find a way to hurt you any way I can.” She said all of this with a clam and matter of fact type voice, which was both frightening and soothing at the same time.

After that the conversation died and Mia with her Mother’s help packed up all her stuff with the guys stacking the boxes and bags neatly into the trunk of the van. When everything was packed into the van Mia and Mrs. Perez shared a tearful but warm farewell and they all pilled into the van as they headed back to the Sanders’ house.
