They see if the coin can read their minds.

It didn’t take much thought for Daisy to make her decision. “Well, I think we’ve all seen how much these coins can change us. I think the more pressing question is if they change based on some kind of set factors, or if they read our minds.” After all, figuring out the answer to that question would be the way to figure out the easiest way to get back to normal.

Amanda nodded at Daisy’s idea, and was quickly thinking of a way to test in that direction. “In that case, we’d need to try using the coin in a way that most people wouldn’t think is odd, but means something to the person in question, and only that person. Let’s not say it out loud, either, because it could be the coin can’t read minds, but can hear what we say. Oh, and Daisy, you take the coin and do the thing.”

Finding herself once again the guinea pig, the first to become a bear and now the one on the chopping block for a test, Daisy let out a sigh and started thinking. What were some things that really only meant things to her? Well, she thought, most people probably associated carrots with rabbits. But her mom, for some reason, had told her carrots made people fat, something that had stuck with her all these years. That would definitely prove whether the coin could read her mind or not. In a different direction, she could try making her own personal onomatopoeia sound for a dog bark, which apparently sounded nothing like one. If that turned her into a dog person, it would prove the same thing. So, would she rather risk gaining weight or becoming an anthro dog?
