Chapter 11 by Nanking Nanking

They reach the First Scroll

After cleaning the acidic slime off both their bodies, the naked adventurers finally made it to the location marked on their Quest map. It was a small clearing in the forest with a grassy hill rising from its center. At its top sat a lone red rose with the first ninja scroll floating above it.

"There it is," Asuna said gleefully from behind a nearby flower, "The first scroll! That wasn't too hard."

"Well, looks can be deceiving," her husband scowled from the same flower.

"Kirito, what is it?"

"I know this place. It's the spawn point for the 47th floor's secret boss, Rose by another Name."

"So that flower is the boss?"

"When you get close, it grows to immense size and attacks."

"Fantastic," Asuna pouted. "Are we going to have to do the boss fight naked then?

"Not necessarily," Kirito said inquisitively, "It's a stealth quest, remember, so there must be a way to get up there without alerting the boss."

"How? Are we going sneak up behind it," Asuna joked.

"Maybe if it had a face," Kirito smirked. "It has to have some means of detection. We just have to find it."

From behind the giant flower stem, the couple began examining the grassy hill, trying to find any indicators of a path up without agroing the dormant boss. After a few minutes of fruitless searching, Asuna noticed something. A light breeze blew through the forest, causing the nude couple to shiver, but it also caused the grass on the hill to bend and flutter. Or at least most of the grass.

"Kirito look!" Asuna called out. She pointed out a specific blade of grass. It was taller than the others and slightly thicker, keeping it from bending to the winds ****. Upon closer inspection, the couple realized the hill was covered in these taller, unmoving blades.

"Roots!" Kirito exclaimed. "There are green colored root tips hidden among the grass."

"Yep," Asuna nodded, "That's how the boss detects incoming players."

"So, if we evade the root tips," Kirito asked.

"We can get the scroll without a fight."Asuna answered.

The couple smiled at one another, proud to have uncovered the mystery and secured their path to the scroll. They began their ascent up the hill, arms still glued to their privates and eyes focused on the ground. If their bare feet so much as grazed a root, they'd be in for a hell of a boss fight. So, they tiptoe their way up the hill taking wide steps over any unusual looking blades of grass there were an unexpectedly large number of them but thanks to the pair's high perception skills they were hard to miss. Things were going pretty well until they started to approach the top of the hill. There, as Kirito was about to step over another root, he realized his foot was about to step onto another Trapper Plant

"Whoa," Kirito panicked, jerking his whole body back to avoid making the same mistake his wife did earlier. Unfortunately, this caused his to lose his balance and fall backward.

'Crap,' Kirito though, 'If I fall, it's all over. There's no way I won't hit one of the roots!"

Kirito swung his arms wildly, trying to regain his balance but just kept falling backward. It looked like it was all over for him, but thankfully, the black swordsman wasn't alone.

"Kirito!" Asuna called quickly, jumping behind him to break his fall. Kirito's back slammed right into her chest as Asuna took a supportive stance to stop Kirito's fall. She hugged her husband from behind as they both slid back half an inch and stopped both safe and upright.

"Well, that could have been bad," Asuna sighed, happy Kirito didn't fall.

"Thank you," Kirito said gratefully.

"You'd do the same for me," Asuna smiled. "That's what makes us an unstoppable team."

She pushed him forward until he was standing up straight again, and together, the two continued their climb this time on the lookout for both roots and monsters. Finally, they reached to top the glowing scroll floating gracefully above the monster flower.

"This is it," Asuna sighed.

"Yep," Kirito said as he reached for it. "One down seven to go."

However, right before Kirito could take the scroll in his hands, he suddenly froze. On the Hud that existed over his vision, something new had appeared. An enemy healthbar. Kirito immediately lurched his hand backward right as the Rose by Another Name grew from a single flower to a serpentine beast with teeth instead of petals. It raised its maw to the sky and let out a fierce roar, the scroll still floating above its head now out of the wannabe ninjas' reach.

"How," Asuna screamed as she covered her ears. They had been so careful, yet the boss event activated anyway. Why? They nude couple soon received their answer when a massive party of other player started charging up the hill, screaming loudly with swords drawn. They were slowly making their way up as they cut through various root vine mobs that spawned to defend the boss. Kirito suddenly remembered the adventurer group they had hidden from earlier mentioned they were heading for an event. He had not put together that they were talking about raiding the hidden boss.

"Of all the rotten luck," Kirito winced as he threw his hands over crotch.

"Oh no, no, no," Asuna panicked, turning red-faced and placing her trembling arms over her privates. "We'll never make it back to the treeline before they get here. W-we're going to get caught already?"

"Alright, alright, just let me think," Kirito turned towards his wife, his panic matching hers. There was no way they could escape before the raid party made it to the boss and was able to catch sight of two of SAOs most famous players stark naked. They couldn't run, so they had to hide. Could they go prone and crawl away? No, someone would see their pale figures in the grass. Could they hide behind the monster? No, what raid party wouldn't encircle their enemy. Could they grab the scroll before the party arrived? No, they all had their eyes on the boss right now.

Kirito was running out of time. The players were almost at the top of the hill. The boss roared once again, preparing to fight. It was that Kirito noticed something behind his blushing bride. The one way they might be able to escape this situation with their dignity intact. And it was an unpleasant solution.

"Asuna," Kirito said, getting his wives attention. "I'm sorry."

Asuna gave her husband a confused look before he grabbed her in an embrace and leaped backward. The couple flew a few feet through the air before landing on something soft and squishy. Asuna's eyes widened, and her toes curled in response to the familiar sensation. But just as she began screaming out in protest, the four leafy tendrils of the Trapper Plant rose up and enveloped the both of them. A few seconds later, the raid party reached the hilltop and encircled the boss none the wiser.
