Chapter 4 by AttenTen AttenTen

Is this stranger really as friendly as he appears?

They have friendly drinking contest.

Texas remained skeptical of Joe's offer as she raised the mug in front of her and eyed it from top to bottom. It appeared to be find and she didn't see him slip anything into it but one could never be too careful around strangers. After thinking it over for a minute, her cautious nature one out and she put the glass down without having taken a sip. Joe frowned at her inaction. In any other situation he would understand and empathize with her for not putting her trust in a complete stranger, but the very idea of turning down a drink was utterly alien to him.

"What's wrong? Don't tell me yer already knackered! One shot'a whiskey and yer ready to call it a day?!" he asked in bewilderment. Once again he managed to get the attention of the bargoers with his outburst, though they were far more amused than worried this time around. Texas was known for many things among the citizens of Gold Springs, her reputation tending to fluctuate depending on which side of the law you found yourself on. Within the walls of that saloon, the thing Texas was most praised for (other than her heroism) was her insane **** tolerance. Being none the wiser of her drinking prowess, the dingo leaned back in his seat and groaned.

"Come ooon! I think I finally find the woman of me dreams and she ends up bein' a damn lightweight!" he complained as he looked up to the sky and closed his eyes. The dingo certainly didn't discriminate when it came to who he was willing to court, but he drew the line at teetotalers. A loud *clank* brought his attention back to Texas and he was stunned to see that she had quickly gulped down her drink.

"Who're ya callin a lightweight?" she asked with a smirk.

"That's more like it! Now let's see if ya can keep up with the likes of me!" the dingo shouted before downing his drink in one swallow.

Texas scoffed at his challenge as she held her glass up for a refill. He had managed to get a rise out of her by insulting her drinking prowess and it behooved her to punish him accordingly. At the end of the night he would be yet another tally mark on the wall of people she drank under the table. The other patrons watched with great interest as the two went to town consuming drink after drink. It wasn't long before they had begun to crowd around the spirited competitors, cheering on their hometown champion while praising her opponent's tenacity.

Who wins the contest?
