Chapter 64 by fredmarley139

How will you respond to what has occurred?

There is only one response.

You barely wait for the sun to rise, before you nudge Dana awake. You have spent the entire night considering what your response to Drux's treachery will be; what he did cannot be allowed to stand. However, you don't want whatever you do to come back and bite you in the ass. Drux may have struck first, but you intend to make the final blow. Drux and his followers have to go.

The best way to accomplish that, in your mind, is to completely wipe them out. Any other response invites retaliation and a drawn-out conflict. You know you can't take them on by yourself. You gained some more XP last night, but it's hardly enough to take on the dark spiders by yourself. You will need the forest spiders to help you. They may have fewer numbers than Drux's lackeys, but spider for spider they outclass their former brethren. You're also pretty sure they'd be willing to help you. The spider you talked to last night made it very clear that he and his brethren consider what Drux did to be a great betrayal. After giving it some more thought, his response had made total sense; from what you've seen, the spiders take protecting their eggs very seriously. The events of last night combined with their high regard of you should be more than enough to convince them of your plan.

The only real question for you is the timeline. Drux only has three heroes to incubate eggs, and one of those is male. That leaves him with the ability to only raise five clutches at a time. The forest spiders, on the other hand, can theoretically produce an unlimited number of clutches. However, their need to be left out in the open makes them ****. You don't know if Drux knows about the forest spiders' clutches, but last night showed that he is unwilling to wait. He will attack again, and soon. You don't want to wait for Drux to seize the initiative. You got lucky last night, but that might not happen next time. The time to strike is now. If something goes wrong, you can always fall back and wait for your increased production capacity to take effect. You stand to lose nothing if you attack now; the same cannot be said for waiting.

You reached this conclusion hours ago, but you decided to wait until morning to act upon it. You wanted to let Dana sleep after the events of last night. However, now the sun is risen, you feel it is time to go and present your plan to the forest spiders.

Dana though, is not so eager. She is **** to release her hold on sleep. You feel a brief pang of guilt for trying to wake her up. Last night was not exactly conductive to getting a good night's sleep. However, you know that if you go without her, Dana will be pissed. Hmm, that gives you an idea.

Dana, you murmur gently, I have to go see the spiders about last night. Do you want to come? "Huh?" Dana ask blearily,"Yeah, yeah. I want to come. Just give me a sec." She yawns and stretches, slipping out of you grasp. She looks around for the smock you made her, before realizing it's gone. She turns back to mention this to you, and is surprised to see a vine holding a newly-made smock. You really don't understand why humans waste so much time sleeping; there's so much more they could be doing with that time. Dana takes the garment from you, and turns around to get dressed. You get to your feet and move over to the Wall of Thorns to wait for her. She walks back over towards you, and puts on the shoes you made. You ready to go? you ask. Dana just nods. You feel another pang of guilt; her eyes are barely open. You don't have to walk, you know? Do you want me to carry you? you offer. "Mmm-hmm." Dana nods again. You scoop her up into your arms, and set off for the spiders.

So, how are the spiders?
