There’s a battle on the field

We found a spot in the student section and ended up standing in a line.

I was on the far left, with Jeff standing next to me. Ariana was beside him, and Chase took the spot on the far right.

From there, we settled in and watched the game.

It was a good one.

Neither team could really pull away. Every time our offense seemed to get something going, the rival defense would answer. Then their offense would make a play, only for our defense to shut them down on the next drive.

The crowd was into every possession.

Every first down brought a huge cheer. Every big hit got a reaction from everyone around us. When either team got close to the end zone, the entire stadium seemed to get louder.

I found myself getting more into it as the game went on.

By the time the clock was getting close to halftime, the score was still tight. It had been a complete dogfight down on the field.

I looked over at Jeff.

“Pretty good game so far.”

“Yeah,” he said, watching the field. “I told you.”

Chase leaned forward from the other side of Ariana.

I couldn’t hear what he said over the noise of the crowd.

Ariana just laughed.

Then Chase playfully pinched her on the butt before straightening back up.

Ariana shook her head, still laughing, and turned her attention back toward the field.

I glanced over at Jeff, but he was completely focused on the game, cheering along with everyone else.
