Chapter 20 by Enasia

What does he say?

The witch left a note

“A bunch of us are going around informing those who probably haven’t already heard,” he says, “You know you’ve become your costumes right?” We all nod. “Okay,” he says, “But did you know that the witch left a note where she disappeared?” We all shake our heads no. “Well, it read that despite some of us gaining special abilities and monstrous forms we can’t do any mortal harm to one another because she wants us to suffer. She also wrote that she’ll return in 3 years and maybe change us back and that our lives have changed to accommodate our new forms.”

Having finished he walks away. With no reason to stay, we all head back downstairs. Back on the first floor, it’s slow going for us because of the stroller and Macy tells Priscilla and Brendan that they can go on without us and that we’ll be fine. They start walking fast towards the entrance and I quickly lose them in the crowd. As we keep going I hear a voice calling out to us, “Dennis!” It sounds like a little girl’s voice. I turn my head and see a woman approaching us. She’s a coworker of mine, Annalise.

Annalise is dressed up like a little girl, wearing a dress that one would probably only ever see on a girl of five years or less, “Hi, Macy and Dennis,” she says as she approaches us. Her voice is much higher pitched than I remember it and she has a lisp. “Dennis, you seem even worse off than me. I thought it would be cute if my daughter and I dressed the same for Halloween, but now I’m stuck acting like a five-year-old, the same age my daughter is and I have the men-ment-, smarts of a little girl too.”

“Were you trying to say mentality?” Macy asks.

“Yes!” she says. She seems to lose focus and bends down a little to get a closer look at me, “Aww. She’s so cute. I’d love it if she could come over and play with me and my daughter.”

“Sure,” Macy says, “Maybe we could do that. We have each other’s numbers if we want to set it up.”

“Bye Dennis,” Annalise says, “I’d say see you at work, but neither of us will be working until this is over so see you for our playdate. I have to go find my husband and daughter.”

She walks off away from the crowded entrance while we head towards it trying to get out of the house. I try to get Macy’s attention to ask what that was about, and why was she so willing to say yes to that, but she ignores me. There clearly seems to be some kind of mental thing going on in the way people are treating me, between the spanking, the way Priscilla examined me and now that interaction with Annalise.

Do they go home?
