The whore of the worlds

Humankind has always wondered: is there life in other parts of the galaxy? If so, how would they be like? Would they be friendly? Hostile? Are we truly alone?

It is this question that prompted them to search for answers in the stars. They have explored new planets and gained more information about the stars, but were no closer to answering their questions.

But on one fateful day in the year 1997, their questions would be answered and the world would never be the same again...

The year is 1997, the setting is Suisun City, California. It is a small quiet city with a population in the 20,000s.

Our protagonist is Hailey Garner, a 20 year-old woman attending the nearby Solano Community College. It was Spring break, and her parents were out of state to visit distant relatives. She had school work to do, so she stayed back at home. With all the freedom given to her with the house to herself, she could frequently be seen walking around in the nude.

For today, she had her pants on while only wearing a white bra on her chest. She was lying on her stomach in bed, kicking her legs in the air back and forth while chatting with her friend. She listened to her friend talk about her road trip, holding the StarTAC flip phone to her ear using the right hand, while writing her essay using the left.

Just then, a whizzing sound was heard that got louder. Hailey stopped her writing and kicking of legs to focus on the noise. The friend's words turned to white noise prattling in her ear as the whizzing sound reached it's peak, ending with a "BOOM!" reverberation that nearly made her jump.

"Talk to you later." Hailey told her friend as she hung up. She placed the phone in her jeans pocket and got up from bed. Her essay could wait. Something was wrong, she could feel it. She swung open her wooden closet and threw on a Nirvana shirt, the yellow words and smiley face on a black background reminding her of that trip to Michigan with her parents last year, where they visited a clothing store to buy a replacement shirt when she spilled a milkshake on her current one.

By the time she got there, a sizeable crowd had gathered around a patch of grassy plain. She had to push and nudge to make her way to the front. What she saw made her eyes widen in shock. A smooth black object, as big as a construction dump truck and as curved and smooth as a Pebble, was practically half buried in the ground. The dirt thrown to the side and the scorch marks marking it's journey before coming to a stop made it appear to be a meteor, but it all seemed... Wrong.

"Oh dear. Is that a meteor? I've never seen one before. I have to tell my grandchildren about this..." An old woman with thick glasses muttered from the crowd. "It looks so smooth and shiny. Do things like that exist in space?" Another man pondered from the crowd as the crowd started to get bigger and the murmurs rose in volume.

"What a strange object. I swear I could've seen something move..." Hailey crossed her arms as she tried to get a closer look, swearing that the dark yet mildly translucent exterior of the object showed signs of movement within it.
