After being shown on the auction for a while, Thomas is bought along with some other slaves by the local wealthy young Muslim woman named Reem. And judging from her voice, she is most likely older than him by at a few years.

According from what Thomas heard on the streets, she is the daughter of a wealthy merchant and his Slavic concubine who left with the caravan for Baghdad a few days before Thomas came with the rest of the raiding expedition from the Roman Empire.

So now, Thomas is just but one of the many slaves of his new mistress' family. And his duty is to be one of her private bodyguards along with the other male slaves she purchased. And as soon as Reem returned to her family's mansion with her maid and the new slaves she purchased, she is greeted by her mother, Nafisa, her mother who is of Slavic origin.

"Sit, Reem. We have something to discuss." Nafisa said as she's sitting on the coach full of pillows.

Without saying a word, Reem sits as her mother requested while Thomas and the other slaves stand nearby along with Reem's maid.

"You do realized how important it is for you to get married, my little gazelle?" Nafisa asked her daughter back.

"Yes, I do, mom. But none of them are my type of man." Reem said as she turned to look at her mother.

"Hmm... I know all of the sons of your father's friends are far from perfect. But all humans are flawed, my little gazelle. Plus, we will not lived forever to make sure you are okay. So it is for your best interests to get marry and have a husband to take care of you." Nafisa said as she is picking up a cup of sage tea and take a sip.

"And then have to deal with their concubines later on? I'll passed." Reem said with an emotionless face as she is looking back at her own mother.

"Oh my little gazelle, you do realized that I did not go through that." Nafisa said as she smiled back at her daughter while putting her cup down.

"You are dad's only concubine, mom. He spent most of his time making money instead of finding more women to create a harem or to give me siblings." Reem said as she's crossing her arms while turning away from her mother.

"Speaking of harem, is that what those new slaves are for?" Nafisa jokingly asked her daughter with a smile since she knows that it is just a joke.

"MOM! That is not funny! These are my private bodyguards who will answered only to me!" Reem said as she's glaring back at her own mother.

"Oh! Like how the previous Caliph formed an army loyal only to him from the Turkic slaves? What are they for, my little gazelle?" Nafisa asked her daughter back, wondering why she needed private bodyguards for.

"Mom! Our city just got raided by the Romans! So of course I needed some protections!" Reem said and that was when she is done talking here and proceed to get up.

"Sigh! That's it! I'm done here! Thanks for the tea!" Reem said despite not even touching the tea and the snacks her mother prepared for her and stormed off the courtyard to her bedroom upstairs.

"Ugh! She can be so unbearable sometimes..." Nafisa whispered before she takes another sip of her sage tea. And while she was at it, she saw Thomas, who is leaving along with the other slaves and Reem's maid to find their mistress.

"Hmm..." Nafisa groaned softly in her throat as she keeps her eyes on the Roman ****.

And that is when an idea formed in her head! She slept with her husband before he left Malatya for Baghdad. And her daughter also desired at least one sibling. Plus, she is in her late 30's, which means bearing a child is still possible for her. So she knows what to do!
