The trip back

Bobbie looks at you in awe. It's almost as if she might admire you. "You know, maybe it might be a good idea if I spent a couple of weeks with you out in the field. I'm not so sure I'm ready to go solo just yet. I mean, uh... What do I mean?"

"I think I know what you mean" you say with a wry smile. "Nothing can prepare you for this, and I think we'll catch just as many pedophiles as a team as we will going solo. It can be rather scary, and sometimes overwhelming."

"Really? You don't mind?" Bobbie says excitedly.

You put your hand on her leg, and pat it gently. "Bobbie, I don't mind at all. I'm sure Caroline will get a little jealous though. We'll be together."

"Oh! Are you two an item, or something?" Bobbie inquires.

You have to giggle at this. "More like something. Not quite an item. We got a little friendly with each other. Let's put it that way. But she may not get jealous. She has a keen interest in you too, it seems."

"Well I don't mind having a three way relationship, if she doesn't" says Bobbie.

"I'm sure she will be more than happy to go for that" you respond. "Caroline's looking for something. I'm not sure what it is, but she has a way of touching your heart."

"I think she just has a thing for younger looking girls. Not that I'm complaining. I don't mind. She's more like the older sister type." Bobbie pauses momentarily. "At least that's what I get from upon first meeting her. She seems needy, and only younger women seem to be able to fulfill that need."

You think about what Bobbie said before speaking. "You know, I think you could be right. She does seem kind of odd that way."

"Well, it's not really odd" Bobbie adds. "It may have something to do with an incident from her own childhood. I can't really be sure until I talk to her a bit more. Between the two of us, I'm sure we'll get her to open up."

"You must have been a psych major" you find yourself saying.

"Yes, indeed I was!" Bobbie says proudly. "But I decided to go into law enforcement, and so here I am."

"Well, I for one am glad you're here. Welcome to the team, Bobbie!" You lean over and kiss her on the cheek. "We'll get into Caroline a little more when we get back."
