The ski lodge wins

A week before the trip…

Jason followed Chloe and Eli out of the school. She kissed Eli goodbye as he headed toward the sports field for lacrosse training. “Ready to go home?” she asked and raised her car keys.

“You bet” said Jason. They both headed over to a small green car that was covered in rust and climbed in. “When are you getting a new car?”

“I’ve been saving up for a few months but still nowhere near what I would like to have” Chloe replied “my parents said that they would double whatever I have right before I leave for college.”

“Summer job then?” Jason asked with a cringe.

“Yeah no time to hang out in the pool like last summer” she stated and moved some of the red hair out of her face.

“Isn’t that how you got Eli?” he asked with raised eyebrows.

“Maybe” she laughed “I like to think it was my winning smile and wonderful personality.”

“When has a guy ever fallen for personality?” asked Jason as Chloe started the car.

“Okay maybe it was my personality and stunning smile” she stated and looked over at Jason.

“I don’t think personality ever has anything to do with first dates it usually is what keeps a relationship going” Jason started to drone on, since he had no long lasting relationship in the four long years he had been going to high school “but you and Eli have great chemistry and seem to be a great couple.”

“Jason I don’t want you putting yourself down just because the right one hasn’t come along” expressed Chloe as she placed a hand on Jason’s shoulder before she started the car.

“I’ve dated almost every eligible woman in our class and not one has gone on a second date with me” Jason sulked as the car whimpered to life “your car resembles my love life.”

“First off don’t bring my car into this” laughed Chloe as she headed for home “second whatever happened with the girl in Math class, Sarah Teller? She really seemed interested in you.”

“She moved to another state after our first date” replied Jason running a hand threw his hair “that is how well my track record is.”

“Your date did not cause that Jason” Chloe said her voice becoming more stern “I don’t like that you are always putting yourself down. You are a great guy and there are still plenty of women out there.”

“Maybe” sighed Jason looking out the window as they passed by several trees.

“Besides I think that this trip to the ski lodge is just what you need to revitalize your energy” Chloe noted with a smile crossing her face “just think snow bunnies.”

“Maybe” repeated Jason glancing back over at Chloe “are you going to become a snow bunny.”

“Eli’s snow bunny” Chloe’s smile became even wider.

“Athletes get all the luck” replied Jason his smile returning.

Several minutes later Chloe dropped Jason off at his house. “Remember this trip is what you have been waiting for so no more sulking” Chloe said.

“Thanks Chloe” Jason replied “I’ll see you Monday.” He waved her off while holding the senior trip packet in his hand and headed for his front door.
