The room next door

You and Layla remain quiet, still joined at the hips. You're starting to think that both of you had misheard the knocking and you're about to flip Layla over on her back, when you hear the knocking again. This time, you decide to go find out who it is and you slip out of Layla delicately, easing her onto the bed and careful not to drop her on the floor. While you hurry over to the closet in the room to put on 1 of the hotel bath robes provided, Layla just grabs 2 pillows and hugs them in front of her, enough to cover up her nakedness while still being obvious that she's not wearing a stitch of clothing.

Once you have the robe tied around your waist, you go over to the door and look out the peep hole. There's nobody there. You keep staring through the hole, trying to catch a glimpse of anyone in the hallway, but after a few seconds you still don't see any movement outside. Annoyed, you turn around and start to make your way back to Layla.

"Must be some kids playing a prank-" you start to say, before you're interrupted by the knocking again. You dart back to the door and this time grab the handle and swing the door open. However, there's nobody outside again. You even poke your head out into the hallway to check in both directions, and there's nobody around.

"It's coming from over here!" you hear Layla call to you from the bed. Puzzled, you close the door and walk back to Layla where you see her pointing to the side of the hotel room. That's when you notice the door in the wall. It must be 1 of those hotels where they have doors connecting between 2 rooms. It's been a while since you've been in 1 of these, which is why you hadn't thought to look there.

"Hello?" you say out loud in the direction of the side door, but there's no answer. You feel wary, wondering if you're about to be confronted by an angry hotel customer for being too loud with Layla, and you're **** to open the door. However, you're very much aware that Layla is watching you and you don't want to show any signs of cowardice. After all, you're the guy who rescued her from the clutches of the intimidating Owens, likely a large part of the reason why she's in a hotel room with you right now.

Taking a deep but discreet breath, you unlatch the lock on the door and turn the handle.
