Chapter 46 by airwreck airwreck

What happened next?

The rooftop pool.

Jonathan looked around the 10th-floor rooftop pool with its spacious sundeck, pool deck with a fire pit, private cabanas, palm trees, and a spectacular panoramic views of L.A. and Beverly Hills. In front of the pool was the glistening water wall fountain with a mural of the hotel's two English bulldogs mascots. He was perplexed that there was no one else around except for the bartender.

"Would you like a drink, sir?" the redhead asked when Jonathan walked up to the bar.

"Just water, thanks," he replied, glancing at her name tag but not too long to avoid appearing to stare at her ample bosom.

"I assume you don't have a wallet with you," she smiled, noting that he was wearing a bathrobe over his swim trunks, "but don't worry it's an open bar so you can order any drink you want."

"Thanks, Jen, but I don't drink ****," Jonathan nodded as he took the bottle of water from her. "So why is it an open bar, may I ask?"

"Oh, I thought you knew that Ms. Chen had reserved the rooftop pool for your party tonight," she replied.

"Ah, I was wondering why it was so deserted," he nodded.

"Well, not many people come up to swim at sunset," she remarked.

"I might as well get some laps while I wait for the girls," he chuckled. "Thanks for the water!"

The young bartender's eyes fixated on Jonathan as he turned away and removed his robe to reveal his muscular back.

"I'm wet and I'm not even in the pool yet!" Allison giggled, startling Jen.

"Oh, jeez!" the redhead gasped, her face blushing to almost match her crimson mane. "Um, what can I get for you?"

"Whatever you have on tap," Allison smirked as she watched Jonathan lower himself down into the pool. She unconsciously licked her lips at the sight of water glistening off his body from the setting sun.

"Hey, Allie," Eva greeted as she approached the bar. "Where is everyone?"

"So far it's just the three of us," Allison replied as she grabbed the pint of beer from the bartender.

Eva looked at the redhead for a moment before she realized that Allison was referring to Jonathan, who was swimming a lap across the pool.

"Would you like a drink?" the bartender asked Eva.

"Not right now, thanks, I'm going for a swim first," Eva grinned, removing her bathrobe to reveal her yellow bikini and her tone body, and did the shaka sign by extending her thumb and pinky finger out while curling her other three fingers.

Allison took a gulp of her beer before placing the glass on the bar and tossed aside her own robe, revealing her white bikini with red polka-dots, to join Eva at the pool.

"Hey, girls!" Jonathan stopped swimming to greet the two engineers. "Come on in! The water's great!"

"I prefer swimming in the ocean," Eva replied as the two of them stepped into the pool.

"But at least we'll have a pool at the facility," Jonathan noted, he treading water while he waited for the girls to swim towards him.

"Do you surf too?" Eva asked.

"No, I actually had a bit of aquaphobia until I got into the Navy," he answered. "In BUD/S..."

"What's buds?" Allison interrupted.

"Basic Underwater Demolition/SEAL," Jonathan answered with a smile. "It's a gruelling 24-week training course that develops SEAL candidates' mental and physical stamina and leadership skills."

"Twenty-four weeks?" Eva gasped.

"Yeah, about seventy-five percent of the candidates fail," he added.

"Have you ever killed someone?" Allison inquired. "I mean, in war..."

"Allie!" Eva chided.

"What? You were in Afghanistan, no?" Allison asked.

"I rather not answer that..." Jonathan responded in a soft voice.

"Oh, I didn't mean..." the blonde engineer apologized.

"It's okay, I save lives now," he smiled and dove under the water. Eva shook her head at Allison before diving into the water to chase after Jonathan.

Allison sighed and was about to swim towards the other two before someone shouted out her name.

Who was calling her?
