Chapter 31 by Caesar25 Caesar25

What's next?

The rogue Jedi

Ki-Adi-Mundi: You are having some nerve returning here after all you have done! Let's see... For breaking into the vault in the archives, the theft of important holocrons, the **** of Jedi librarian Jocasta Nu, and three padawans in the archives 4 days ago!

Lana: What?! This is madness! I haven't done anything of the sort!

Ki-Adi-Mundi: There are holorecordings of your actions, the council will decide your fate. Surrender now of we will take you by ****!

Lana: I was on Mandalore! I couldn't have done it!

Ki-Adi-Mundi (reaching for his lightsaber while the temple guards ignite theirs): I am not here to argue. Surrender your lightsabers! Now!

HK69 (drawing his rifle): Don't you dare threaten my master, you aging, vile organic!

Lana (as you ignite yours): I'm innocent! I have done nothing!

Ki-Adi-Mundi (drawing his lightsaber): She's resisting! Capture her!

Lana: HK, set to stun! Don't kill any of them!

HK69 (as he's shooting the incoming temple guards): Ahhh, why do you always have to spoil the fun? Alright, set to stun.

They close in on you, but you are no fool, you know you wouldn't stand a chance against them, there are too many and they are too well trained. Instead you toss a stun grenade in front of them, which temporarily deafens and blinds them. The incapacitated temple guards are all around you, but cannot do anything harmful.

Lana: HK, now!

HK69 (stunning the temple guards one by one): Finally, I get to shoot some Jedi! Even if only with stun shots...

Ki-Adi-Mundi (after he deflects the shots while being lined and deafened): The **** gives me what my eyes and ears would conceal. You cannot hope to match a Jedi Master, you renegate!

Lana (turning around and running back to the ship): Come HK, let's get out of here!

HK69: Master, my sensors indicate that the ship is locked here by a tractor beam! We cannot leave with it unless it's deactivated, even if we managed to shoot our way through the hangar door via proton torpedos!

Lana (you shoot the glass of a nearby window): Blast them all! We'll go that way!

You grab HK's shoulders and lift him up by igniting your jetpack, as you are about to fly through the freshly broken window, the Jedi master halts your escape, by holding you back with the ****.

Ki-Adi-Mundi (slowly pulling you back): Not so fast!

Lana (struggling to get away): Not now old man! Oh no, more Jedi are coming!

HK69 (after analyzing the situation): Master, I can grant you an escape route, just let me handle the Jedi alone!

Lana (as more and more Jedi rush into the hangar): What are you saying? You don't stand a chance against so many!

HK69: My protocol is to protect you at any cost. And so I will. I refuse to elaborate further!

Lana: What...? HK don't...!

HK69: I will do what I was made to do!

He breaks free of your hold and lands on the floor a few meters beneath you, aiming at Ki-Adi-Mundi and firing a few stun shots at him. The Jedi master's pull is interrupted as he defends himself. All the shots are deflected and HK got what he wanted. You are free to escape, but you are hesitating. You have left a friend behind recently to save yourself, you don't want to repeat that. However, as dozens of Jedi pour into the hangar, you are left with little choice. If you stay, HK's self-sacrifice will go to waste and you will be captured. With a heavy heart, you fly through the window and shout back to HK.

Lana (as you fly away from the temple): I'll come back for you HK!

HK69 (quietly, while firing tirelessly at the approaching Jedi): I know you will master! It has been an honour serving you!

He managed to incapacitate a handful of Jedi knights, but the odds were heavily against him. They surround and overrun him, severing his arms and stabbing him a few times to ensure he is not going to try and tricks on them.

HK69 (as his systems shut down): Systems f....failure... Blasted... organics... Self-dest... destruction... initiated... Haha! I finally get to... kills somee... Jedaaaiiii...

Jedi knight (frightened): Self destruction?! Run, he's going to blow up!

Ki-Adi-Mundi (as all the nearby Jedi flee for their lives): I will not allow you to do that!

He **** pulls HK's core right out of his body and aborts the self-destruction by tearing him apart.

Ki-Adi-Mundi: Alert Republic command! We have yet another renegade Jedi on Coruscant! We need clone troopers looking for her, now!

Jedi knight: Yes, master!

Meanwhile, you have been able to fly quite a distance from the temple itself, landing on a nearby street and decide to continue on foot to attract less attention. Within minutes, you see your wanted poster on the holopanels and see clone troopers looking for you, narrowly avoiding them in the dark alleys. You look for a public long-distance communicator to send a signal to Mandalore, asking for assistance from your people, but all the transmissions going there are blocked.

Lana (punching the communicator): Damn it! I must find an other way!

Trooper (shouting to you from a distance): Hey, you, in the armour! Halt!

Lana (turning around, then running away): Blast!

Trooper (running after you and sending a transmission): Found her! I need reinforcements!

You run on the open street and get noticed by a few more troopers, they send a couple of stun shots, but they are all either blocked or dodged by you. They would rather grab their stun buttons and chase you into the alley, where you attempt to lose them. It is a dead end, just as you had hoped. **** jumping to a balcony and lying down to avoid visibility from the ground level, you stay put and wait for the troopers to arrive. They rush in after you, but cannot figure out where you have gone.

Trooper 1 (looking around): What the heck? Where is she?

Trooper 2: Couldn't have gone far, there's only one way in here!

Trooper 1: We should search the area, send a transmission to the command post, we need hounds down here to sniff her our!

Lana (whispering): Yes, call command, that's exactly what I need!

Trooper 2 (dialing command): One sec... Command, this is trooper CT-5732, from sector 839.

Commander (via transmission): Yes, trooper?

Lana (using **** mind trick): You haven't seen the rogue Jedi...

Trooper 2: I... I haven't seen the rogue Jedi...

Trooper 1: Heh? Are you okay? We have just...!

Lana (using **** mind trick): You agree with him...

Trooper 1: I agree with him...

Commander (shaking his head): What? You have just sent us an emergency signal a minute ago!

Lana (using **** mind trick): You have confused an other Mandalorian with her... The Jedi isn't here...

Trooper 2: I have confused an other Mandalorian with her... The Jedi isn't here...

Commander: I see... Try to identify the target first, the next time you ask for more men! I had been redirecting a whole battalion because of your call!

Trooper 2: Understood sir, sorry sir...

Trooper 1 (as the transmission ends): I think we should take a break, one more mistake like that and we'll be sent to the maintenance corps on an ice world...

Trooper 2 (walking away): Yeah, I agree. I know a cantina nearby, it has some awesome Twi-lek girls, you should check it out!

Lana (getting off the balcony as soon as the troopers are gone): Heh, that was close. This should keep them distracted for a short time. I'd better get to the lower levels, it would be much easier to blend in there.

You keep to the shadows and avoid the patrols rather well, hiding your presence from the Jedi who are searching for you. You can sense them hunting you all over Coruscant, but due to the presence of so many people, you cannot determine their location. This "interference" helps you greatly to stay out of their sences. You hear the news about the Republic officially suspending all traffic between its worlds and Mandalore, until the situation is stabilized there. That is going to make your way of getting back there all the harder. As you are descending deeper and deeper into the seemingly bottomless city, you sense a presence you haven't sensed for weeks. A familiar one.

Lana (as the realization strikes you): Ashoka! That must be her! She's nearby... Somewhere... But it's very hard to pinpoint her with all these millions of living beings around us.

Ashoka (from an alley next to you): You will get used to it within weeks.

Lana: Ashoka! How did you find me?

Ashoka (cloaked): Besides looking like a walking tank in your armour among the beggars of the lower levels? I heard the news about you, sensed your presence, and came looking for you. Once you are used to the many living beings playing havoc on your senses, you will learn how to distinguish what you are looking for.

Lana: That's very helpful if you are a fugitive! I should learn that too! Can you help me get away from the authorities?

Ashoka: Of course, that's why I'm here. I don't think you would do anything that serious to be wanted by the whole planet.

Lana: Because I didn't!

Ashoka: I too, was once charged unjustly for something I haven't done and was **** to flee to the slums of the city. I wouldn't want anyone else to go through that without help.

Lana: Yeah, I have heard of that... I'm sorry you decided to leave the order...

Ashoka: It wasn't an easy choice, but after having turned their back on me, I just couldn't stay there any longer... Anyway, enough of the past, come, I know a place where you can hide!

Lana: Thank you, Ashoka!

Minutes after you leave with her, a group of clone troopers appears with hounds following your scent. Luckily for you, Ashoka has prepared for everything and throws a fresh piece of raw Uxibeast meat into a trash can, which the Corellian Hunter Hounds won't be able to resist. She was right, the hounds went crazy the moment they caught scent of the meat and totally forgot about you. Then she takes you to her place, where she lives with Rafa and Trace Martez, the former, you have met once on Nar Shaddaa some years ago. You take your helmet off and greet them.

Lana: Hello!

Ashoka: Girls, this is Lana, a friend of mine.

Trace: Hi!

Rafa: Hey there! Wait, you look familiar, haven't I seen you before?

Lana: Now that you mention it...

Rafa: Whoa, wait, I don't owe you money too, do I?

Lana: Ehm...

Rafa: Hold on, you are not that girl from the Black Sun, whose spice I stole, are you? If you need that back, well, hehe, I can get you the exact amount, with some bonus of course, just give me a couple of days and...! No, let's say a couple of weeks and I'll deliver you double!

Lana: Actually, we met on Nar Shaddaa a long while ago, does that ring any bells?

Rafa: Oooh, yees, that girl who helped me and that green girl escape those slavers! How are you doing?

Lana: Yes, that one, and besides being Coruscant's most wanted, I'm fine, thanks!

Rafa: Pff, welcome to the club!

Lana: Guys, I need to find a way off this world, so I can contact my people on Mandalore to help me. Can you think of a way to leave this city unnoticed?

Ashoka: Well, if there's a way to do that, Rafa is your woman.

Rafa: What's your destination?

Lana: I don't know it yet, either the outer rim or Hutt space.

Rafa: Leave it to me, I already know how we are going to make you disappear!

Lana: Why do I have a bad feeling about this?
