The right carving

You place your hand on the carving of the jackal. The image seems to pulse for a moment, before it begins to fade from the wall. You remove your hand, but by the time you do so, the carving is gone.

You feel your skin prickle; it feels like someone's watching you. Slowly, you turn around. Standing in the middle of the room is a tall man covered in coarse light brown hair. At first, you think that he has a wolf-like head, but then you see that you were fooled by a shaggy beard and glowing golden eyes. He stares at you without speaking.

"O, master of the land", you say. "Please accept my humble apologies for summoning you here."

The god doesn't speak for a long moment and just stares at you with unblinking eyes.

"I am Anubis", the Ancient Egyptian god of **** says. "I am never summoned lightly."

Anubis' voice is low and gravelly, as if he doesn't use it often.

"I wish to ask for a boon, lord", you continue quickly. "I am trapped here and wish to escape. If anyone can help, you, the master of this place, surely can."

Again, Anubis doesn't reply. Instead, he raises his hand and waves. Behind you, you hear stone grinding against stone. You spin around a see that the star map is slowly turning. When it completes a full revolution, the circle opens like a door. Suspended in the air at the centre of the opening behind it lies a crowbar. Quickly you take it, then step back as the star map snaps back into place.

You turn to thank Anubis, but he has already vanished. Nonetheless, you bow towards the centre of the room, showing your appreciation of Anubis' help. It never hurts to be thankful to old gods.
