The result

Valerie was surprised to see tens of people in the room. They all turned to face her, making her turn red. Each of them congratulated Anya in turn, while she was forced to stand quietly to the side, unable to cover herself in any way. Some of them went to her, consoling her on her loss. She smiled gracefully at everyone, while burning with shame at her state.

Once everyone had their turn, Anya finally approached her, saying "You did well. There's nothing to be ashamed of."

Valerie thanked her, although her voice sounded unsure. "I mean it.", Anya said earnestly. "You showed courage and compassion out there today, even if it cost you. I value someone who stands for their principles. You've earned my respect today, Valerie."

"I'll train you personally.", said Anya. "And once you're back on the field, you can be sure that I have your back. This organization needs people like you". She held out her hand.

Valerie couldn't believe what she was hearing. Anya almost never trained someone for a day, let alone three months. This was an opportunity of a lifetime. She raised her bowed head, and shook Anya's outstretched hand.

"You won't regret this, ma'am.", she said, tears in her eyes.

"Now, chin up. Your training starts tomorrow. Although I'll give you one advice."

"What's that?", asked Valerie.

"Be careful around Hawk.", replied Anya, winking.
