Which one do you reach for?
The remote
The remote! It must be some kind of high tech gadget for catching ghosts! If there’s anything that could triumph over the supernatural, it’s technology!
You grab the remote and throw it at the possessed man with your pitiful lack of might. It makes contact with his face, dealing enough concussive force to make him grab his nose and recoil. You’re hopeful, but what follows isn’t a dramatic scene of a translucent figure getting sucked into the remote. The remote simply drops to the ground. All five LEDs on the remote light up, accompanied by a high-pitched beep, but nothing else happens. Before you have a chance to do anything else, he grabs you by the ankle and drags you into the nearest room, growling angrily at the slight harm you managed to cause him.
‘That’s for detecting ghosts, not exorcising them! You idiot!’ Sally rages.
In other circumstances, you might feel indignant that she expects you to know how her equipment works. But, as you shake like a leaf in the possessed burglar’s beefy grip, all you feel is fear and dread.
