The pool

“John,” your beautiful brunette girlfriend Mandy says as she poked her head into the bedroom, “We’ve been here for two weeks now, and we still haven’t seen anything other than the inside of this apartment.” She looks at you with those big blue eyes, the ones that always seemed to sparkle when she’s happy. You can’t help but smile back, her energy is infectious.

“I’m sorry Mandy,” you apologize, “but I’ve got to finish this paper by Monday.” You show her a stack of papers on your desk, all marked up with red ink and scribbled notes. She looks at the pile sadly before turning to Trish, who had followed behind her into the room.

“Come on, we can go out and explore while John work,” Trish suggests. “Maybe we’ll find something fun.”

Mandy grins widely. “Sounds like a plan! Let’s go!”

You smile at Mandy as she grabs Trish’s hand and drags her out of the room, excited for their adventure. As they close the door behind them you return to your work.

It’s been a few hours since Mandy and Trish left, and you have made great progress on your paper. “It’s amazing how fast I can work without distractions,” you laugh to yourself, while grabbing your phone and texting Mandy to see where they are.

“The pool!” Mandy replies to your text.

“Pool?” you reply realizing you’ve never noticed a pool.

“It’s on the roof. Come join us!” She quickly replies.
