Chapter 133 by robyna robyna

Where did she take him?

The pizza place where April worked

Wendy practically dragged Matt out of the house and ignored his protests as she drove straight to the same restaurant where he'd had a late lunch a couple of hours before.

"I'm so sorry my mother talked that way, Matt. It was like a disease. One day she was perfectly normal and open-minded." Wendy led him from her car into the restaurant. "Then, all of a sudden," she continued, "mom started listening to those crap talk radio shows where they all shout and blame people for everything wrong with America."

"It's not your fault, Wendy. You didn't make her go off on me so you don't have to apologize for her."

"But--"

"I understand. She's your mother. You wanted her to like me. I wanted her to like me too but I don't think it's going to happen."

Sure enough, April showed up to take them to their table and gave them menus. She did an obvious double-take when she saw Matt... with a different girl from last time... but Wendy was so intent on her excuses and explanations, she didn't notice.

"Thank you for coming to Peninsula Pizza," April said "Let me show you to a booth."

Wendy sat and, when Matt looked like he was going to sit across from him, grabbed him and dragged him next to her.

"I invited you to dinner so this is my treat. Get anything you want."

Yeah, like he was going to fill up on the most expensive items because his date was paying. "I can pay," he said thinking how short a time the money he'd made from bartending at Tanya's party would last.

"Not happening. This is on me."

April showed up in a couple of minutes and took their orders. She glared at Matt when he ordered, then stepped away, her hips switching.

"I, uh, have to go to the bathroom," Matt said. "Back in a second."

He caught up with April around the corner where Wendy couldn't see him.

"So, you're some kind of player," April said.

"She's in my Trig class in summer school."

"It looks like she wants to be a lot more than just a fellow Trig student to me."

"Does that bother you? I mean, it's just a date."

"Okay, I'm overreacting. I met a guy, gave him my phone number which I never do, and then see him with another girl. I think I have a right to overreact."

Matt wasn't going to argue the logic of that. "I'll call you in the next couple of days. We can get together and you can explain all of this to me, okay. In the meantime, do me a huge favor. If you have to spit in one of our pizzas, spit in mine. Wendy is a nice girl and she's had a really rough day."

"Fine. I'm not going to spit in your pizza. Now go back to your date."

Matt headed back to Wendy.

"I was worried you were going to dump me," she said. "I almost forgot how my sister practically attacked you. You got it from two sides at my place."

"Your sister was cute. I remember being sixteen and thinking eighteen year-olds were so grown up and cool. She reminds me of my sister... outgoing and in a hurry to get what she wants."

"I'm glad she reminds you of your sister and not some hot girl you want to... date."

"Well, she reminds me a little of you so I guess she does remind me of a hot girl I want to date."

Wendy punched him in the arm. "You are a dufus, you know that?"

Any action in the restaurant?
